I usually buy them by the "card", paying cash and getting a discount. I'm sure some here find them appealing both from the material, history, USA made and such. Me? I equate them to Bic lighters, trust worthy, cheap and nothing particularly noteworthy with regards to eye appeal. But, that's just one smoker's opinion.

I think you nailed it! — I agree with Warren on all counts but one: eye appeal. — I think the better made, larger cobs and limited edition artisan cobs make absolutely beautiful keeper pipes. These hold great eye appeal to me.

I prefer Bics to fancy lighters myself and can also agree that the card rack cobs in gas stations do fit the bill as the Bic lighters of pipes.

It smokes great. I find that it has less of a corn flavor when breaking in. The stem takes some getting used to, not the greatest for clenching, but I like the old world feel. Definitely recommend.

Interesting cob I've had for some time. Smokes quite well. But I prefer the Charles Town Cobber, or whatever it's called, over all others.
