Alright, the box is still scheduled to depart this afternoon, so nothing there has changed. I wanted to jump on and update an earlier post I made concerning sampling Black House.
Earlier I detailed my wife's aversion to the delicious aroma I am wreathed in when I smoke on my way home from work. I think I have found a solution- exercising Delayed Gratification Technique and smoking a bowl in two halves: the first half on the way in to work on day one, and smoking the second half on the way in to work on day two. The aforementioned delicious aroma dissipates sufficiently over the course of 10+ hours. The only thing I need to do to make this work as smoothly as possible is fashion a stopper for the bowl of my pipe so that ash doesn't spill out into my pipe pouch. I just can't guarantee that the pipe will remain perfectly upright from one day to the next. I intend to shave down a wine bottle cork for this purpose.
This was how I was able to sample Black House yesterday and today. It was an enjoyable experience, however, I think I liked White Knight a little better. To me, WK seemed just a little sweeter than BH. Obviously, these blends are not smoked for their sweetness, but I like the underlying complexity some sweetness provides to the savory robustness of the other tobaccos in the blend. BH is a great blend, not one I would smoke every day (if I could smoke every day), but definitely one to keep in the rotation.
So the next 2-day tasting as the box is in transit will be the St. Bruno that I took a pipe's worth of before I packaged up the box. Of course, if we get the 6 to 8 inches of snow that they are calling for here in SE VA, I may not be driving anywhere for a day or two, so the tasting may be pushed to the next time I go work. I know, nothing compared to what our Northeastern brethren have to deal with, but we just don't have the capacity to deal with any amount of the white stuff down here.
