    Losing My Taste For Tobacco

+1 on the steroid nasal spray, life changer for me

    Possible Tongue Bite Solution

FWIW I also experience less tongue bite when I don’t dump all the ash. I assume it acts as a sort of insulation.

    Laudisi/C&D is making their play

I’ll tell my B&M guys about this, sounds promising. However, I’m not sure I can smoke “Sir Vanderberry” in good conscience without feeling like a waxed mustache toting hipster. No offense to any such mustachioed hipsters.

    McClelland Sighting

$100 for the small and $200 for the bigger ones. Is that typical?

    McClelland Sighting

Didn’t get to try (wayyy beyond my budget) but my local B&M had these out and I wanted to share. Felt like I saw Bigfoot or Nessie.

***What Are You Smoking, January 2025?***

Had some Glengarry Flake in a Dr Grabow Omega I did some light restoration work on. This tobacco is going to be a favorite. Has anyone else gotten a hint of Juicy Fruit gum from it, or am I deranged?

    Infusions and Mold

Fantastic. I don’t smoke enough to get through the amount I infused (oops) in a few days and I don’t want to waste it, so I’ll let it dry more and jar it. Thanks.

    Infusions and Mold

Seems I was able to bring some rather dry B&M Balkan mixture back to life using a rum infusion (shot glass and Tupperware technique), but am wondering if this opens the blend up to mold. I realize most mass produced blends are treated, but curious if the alcohol would neutralize this, and once...

    Home Infusions?

What is pressing? I’ve infused a VA flake and some dried out Balkan with some rum, but not sure what the next step would be besides just letting it dry and smoke it.

I've Seen It All Now - Japanese Fighting Pipes

I have seen some Edo period samurai media where characters will jam a cig in the kiseru bowl. Seems to be just about the right size.

    Naphtha and Mouth Health

I’m actually planning on grabbing some balsa filters for when I have aromatics. Despite my efforts to get away from them, it’s what I keep pirchasing.

    Naphtha and Mouth Health

Thanks. I got a pipe insert zippo and do like it a lot, don’t mind the taste a whole lot. Thinking about the hemp wick for when I’m inside, I know it’s controversial but figure it would save on bics when I use them.

    Naphtha and Mouth Health

Perhaps a silly concern considering I’m already tasting nicotine laced smoke, but does using a naphtha burning zippo pose any extra risk to mouth health compared to a butane bic? Or is it just the taste? Thanks

Are we Really Losing That Much With the Closures of Mac Baren and Sutliff?

Wait, I thought the Peterson blends were safe? Do you have more info on this?

    Cleaning and Cake

Will do, thanks! I do have some pipes I’ve tried to restore (and done an okay job on I think) and some of them have had stupendous amounts of cake.

    Cleaning and Cake

I know, another thread about cake. I haven’t really built up any noticeable amount on any of my pipes because I simply don’t smoke them enough. But as time goes on (or I fail to properly clean after a smoke) will cleaning with alcohol destroy this nascent carbon layer as well as remove gunk?

    Dumping Ash

Sounds good, will do. Thank you. I do suspect I am still packing too tight.

    Dumping Ash

It seems that just a few minutes after establishing a nice silver-white layer of ash on the top of the bowl, the tobacco below will not keep lit. I end up dumping the ash and essentially have to start over with a charring light, tobacco burning hot, etc. is there a way around this?

    Your Own "Worst" Tobacco

Also gonna put in that my current bane is Bob’s Chocolate Flake. Makes me genuinely sad, one bowl of it was deep and rich, but one before and two after that experience have tasted like a new Spaulding basketball. Clean clay pipe and everything.

    Your Own "Worst" Tobacco

Tempted to make a joke about the English Civil War here. I’ve been looking into getting it, what did you not like about it?
