Perhaps a silly concern considering I’m already tasting nicotine laced smoke, but does using a naphtha burning zippo pose any extra risk to mouth health compared to a butane bic? Or is it just the taste?
Thanks

No more health risk than usual. We used naphtha to light our charcoal grill back in the 70s. Gave the burgers that classic backyard taste. If you don't mind or like the aftertaste, use it. Zippo brand naphtha to me is the cleanest. Remember there about a dozen different kinds of naphthas including light petroleum distillate, hydrotreated paraffinic hydrocarbons etc etc. Each has their own boiling points and VOC levels.

I recently started using char cloth and flint as well as beeswax dipped hemp wick.

Thanks. I got a pipe insert zippo and do like it a lot, don’t mind the taste a whole lot. Thinking about the hemp wick for when I’m inside, I know it’s controversial but figure it would save on bics when I use them.

I don't know anything about naphtha but have never had any taste issue related to normal lighter fluid in a Zippo and all of mine have pipe inserts. Mouth health? Doubt it is a worry.

Not sure the hemp wick is really relevant or controversial. Zippo sells them, or you can use . . . matches if you really want to save money.

how hot you burn the tobacco has more notable risk. Not giving your self tongue bite will do more for helping you stay healthy.

Not silly at all, nothing wrong to minimize risk. I use filters in large part because they possibly do

I’m actually planning on grabbing some balsa filters for when I have aromatics. Despite my efforts to get away from them, it’s what I keep pirchasing.

I think that if you're tasting whatever is in your lighter, you're doing it wrong. I've used a Zippo for over a decade and have never tasted the fluid. Let the excess burn off for a few seconds before lighting.
I have used Zippos for over 60 years and never tasted lighter fluid, just as Snook does it.
