    Grabow Omega Stem Material

Yep, looks like I’m going to bust out some fine grit sandpaper and a bowl of water for that stem. Apparently it was only $17. Thankful and excited!

    Grabow Omega Stem Material

Just army mounts, one is an Arklow straight billiard and the other an Irish Made straight apple. Have yet to get a spigot, perhaps one day.

    Grabow Omega Stem Material

Many thanks. I have two Peterson army mounts that I’m a fan of so I’m excited to see one on this as well.

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

Got some Visions of Celephais for Xmas. Probably not a very orthodox pick for my first C&D blend. I like grape and I like old pulp horror so it appealed to me. Will have to see how they carry over in a bowl-though I am slightly concerned it may ghost even a clay.

    Grabow Omega Stem Material

Thanks, appreciate the info. As an aside, do you know if the army mount here is real or for show?

    Grabow Omega Stem Material

My brother got me a Dr Grabow Omega picked up at an antique store. Modern versions of this pipe list the stem material simply as “plastic.” Considering the patina on this one (assuming it is decently older), is this more likely to be vulcanite? It is indeed sour which tells me it’s sulfur. Thanks

    Post-Bowl Stickiness and Smell

I appreciate all the help and comments-a good clean and some burley is in order. Thanks everyone.

    Post-Bowl Stickiness and Smell

Briar with vulcanite. It’s an army mount though, not sure if that makes a difference as far as flushing it.

    Post-Bowl Stickiness and Smell

I did a few times, seemed to have helped. Should one do this till no residue comes out? I’m not particularly concerned about building extensive carbon cake.

    Post-Bowl Stickiness and Smell

This seems to occur with aromatics, but after I have a bowl, the inside is sticky. It (the pipe) also has a sweet and dank smell that I can pick up halfway across the room when left out to dry. Is this normal, and do I need to do anything different? Thanks-

    Troubleshooting Bob’s Chocolate Flake

I’ll see about getting some Rum Flake or Ennerdale, good idea.

    Troubleshooting Bob’s Chocolate Flake

I love Nightcap, which is the weird part.

    Troubleshooting Bob’s Chocolate Flake

Definitely more a rubber note, almost like walking into a new shoe store primarily stocked with sneakers. Perhaps, if I squint, I could see it being sort of floral in an acrid kind of way. Which makes me think it could be the Lakeland combined with burning too hot from undoubtedly lackluster...

    Troubleshooting Bob’s Chocolate Flake

I haven’t had any other Lakeland blends, which makes me think it may be the culprit. I may have to look into English Chocolate, that sounds fantastic.

    Troubleshooting Bob’s Chocolate Flake

I want to love BCF. The cocoa and sort of musty sweet funk are really appreciated, but 2/3 times there seems to be a sort of undertone that frankly, I can only describe as a new basketball. Is this my technique, the Lakeland essence, or something else? Fwiw I’ve had it in both a corn cob and a...

    Losing My Taste For Tobacco

Thankfully there are a handful of non-surgical options for nasal polyps. Nasal route corticosteroids can be safe over long periods, unlike oral route (with a doctor’s approval ofc). And there’s a biologic injection now, I think Dupixent. An ENT will know for sure, so if it is polyps imo you...

    What are You Reading Now?

If it can be counted as reading, I’ve been listening to Gene Wolfe’s Book of the New Sun. Severian and Vodalus kept me company while I enjoyed some Cult BRM.

    Neal Stephenson.

I should try anathem again. I was probably too young last I gave it a go, my interest petered out. I did like how it felt a bit like Canticle for Leibowitz.

    Losing My Taste For Tobacco

Throwing in my two cents-it may be worth going to an ENT to check for nasal polyps. They can big time impact taste/smell. Thankfully mine aren’t too bad but before I got medication, tobacco smoke was just hot air.
