    Covid and Pipe Smoking

Well I'm about 10 minutes in and I have chosen Kriswill blue because it is a cool smoking blend with plenty flavour going on. Don't want to fry my tongue chasing after taste. It is in a falcon and so far I can taste the sweetness of the Virginia, but no zing from Perique on retrohale. Ironically...

    Covid and Pipe Smoking

I gave up cigarettes about 6 years ago. I also smoke for taste and although I have a fair tolerance for nicotine, that is not the primary reason why I like a pipe. Now off to the smoking lounge (shed) so I will hopefully have an hour (ish) of me time and hopefully be able to taste. No cough and...

    Covid and Pipe Smoking

Thanks for the quick replies and good wishes. I am almost asymptomatic and have had far worse colds. It is my second bout of Covid and despite being careful it has come from my daughters Infant School. I also smoke to relax, so will try again tonight. I will report here afterwards.

    Covid and Pipe Smoking

So last weekend my partner and my daughter both tested positive for Covid. I thought I'd dodged the bullet for a couple of days but I succumbed as well. I have decided to keep smoking my customary evening pipe as so far I have remained less affected, having had a recent booster jab. My sense of...

    Jack Hargreaves Tribute Pipe

Gteat Video and good to see Jack amoking his beloved Falcon. I have now got 4 in regular rotation but I had better check out the tribute pipe. I confess to being a Falcon lover and I'm neglecting my Briar pipes whilst indulging my Falcon fetish. They are just ao goddammed practical, just like...

    Dan Tobacco St Bernard Flake

It might be similar, although there is a straight Virginia Mallard as well. I have just enjoyed a bowl of DTM Kriswill Navy Cut blue. Also a VaPer and very nice. More bready than St B with less Perique, but an awesome blend. I think it compares well to Solani 633.

    Dan Tobacco St Bernard Flake

It doesn't seem to be carried in the US. It is crazy cheap at Eatervals in Germany though, so that would offset any carriage charges.

    Dan Tobacco St Bernard Flake

Hi Sigmund. I confess I'm not a Latakia lover. I don't mind Kentucky in a blend, but as you observe, VaPer blends are my thing. Salty Dogs is a lovely blend. I think it is best suited to occasional treats and I will order more when I am able to.

    Dan Tobacco St Bernard Flake

This is nicer to my palate. St James is more difficult to handle mechanically and although many swear by it, I can take it or leave it. St James is more peppery amd less stone fruit and I much prefer the fruity bready VaPers.

    Dan Tobacco St Bernard Flake

I can see why you would think that. I guess Kriswill is a Navy Flake that just happens to have Perique as a condiment. It is a cool burning blend that I happen to like more than Capstan. It sure has the Grassy and Bready notes in abundance.

    Favorite Dan Tobacco blends

Thanks Sigmund. I have Salty Dogs at last and now I have four VaPers by DTM:- Salty Dogs St Bernard Kriswill Blue Limerick. So far enjoying comparing them all. Very fun time for me. Regards, John.

    Dan Tobacco St Bernard Flake

Hi. I like it very much. It is more ready to smoke out of the Jar than St Bernard and needs very little dry time. Flavour profile is like Peterson Deluxe Navy Rolls or Solani 633, but maybe more fruit and bready notes. My review is on this site and Tobaccoreviews.com...

    DTM (treasures of Ireland) Limerick.

This is an unusual VaPer in modern terms as it isn't as full on with the Perique as most recently made blends. It is made on the Goldilocks principle. Not too much and not too little. According to Dan Tobacco, it contains 5% of the Louisiana leaf and that seems to me to be "just right." The tin...

    Have You Found "Your Blend"?

Glad to see that you are finding your way through the considerable ammount of available tobaccos out there. I'm sure that you are getting to know a few blends very well. It is also very important to establish what you don't like, be it a genre or brand of tobacco. I am unable to tolerate Burley...

    Have You Found "Your Blend"?

Still chasing Unicorns after a mere 45 years of trying. I used to have the desire for that one perfect blend and the long lost Players Whiskey flake was mine. These days VaPers are more my thing and I tend to rotate them to avoid boredom and tongue fatigue. My latest favorite is DTM St Bernard...

    Another Grandpa Thread

My Grandad died in 1950 aged 75. As I wasn't born til 1961, I have no knowledge of him, apart from what my late Mother told me. He smoked Pigtail Twist in a very small pipe and when he was blind in later years my Mum used to slice and prepare his smokes. I keep some similar twist as an homage to...

1st lb purchased after 16yr test.

I am starting to cellar deeply on some blends. 45 years in and I'm still learning what I like. I have bought some "new to me" blends in bulk from Estervals recently and I think I might buy more whilst the price is favorable. I had another small delivery today and if i like the blends then I will...

Brief GH Brown Flake Unscented Review

I used a graduated medicine syringe and drizzled it onto the flake in a plastic bag. I then jarred it to allow it to soak in and mature. Obviously some drying time had to be factored in when it came to smoking it.

    The Most Disappointing Tobacco

The Ogdens version was indeed sweet and it came in an oblong tin and was literally a block or loose cake inside. It was a UK codger blend but was always a little pricier due to the quality of the Virginias therein. The MacBaren version has a lot more Burley and doesn't posess the honeydew...

    The Most Disappointing Tobacco

Holger Dansk Royal Navy Flake was a sublime smoke, and then MacBaren took over production and it became unrecognisable. It suddenly bit me mercilessly. Same with MacBaren's take on Players Whiskey, the original of which I loved, as it was the first real blend I bought 45 years ago. Gold Block...
