    Best with Coffee...

Of the tobaccos in my humble cellar, Borkum Riff Bronze (Bourbon) goes best. Something about Bourbon and Coffee I guess.

    Borkum Riff Bronze (Bourbon).

Thanks for the kind words. I tried it on a whim and it has become an instant favorite and the one I reach for the most. I am only sorry that the 7oz cans are not available in the UK. It is indeed a good choice for breaking in a new pipe. Cool, sweet and tasty to the bottom of the bowl. Lack of...

    The "Good Smoker" Pipe

A good smoker is not nescessarily an expensive pipe. All the pipes that I have that I would describe as good smokers have an open draw and smoke cool and dry without undue effort. On paper a Peterson system pipe would be a great smoker, but not for me, as I don't like the P lip. I do however...

    Blend Reserved for Treats?

Do you have any tobaccos that you keep just for treats ? I have some Solani 660 Silver Flake that has been jarred for about 6 months. I find I appreciate it more if I reserve it as a treat for long contemplative smokes. Nice change of pace and very tasty.

    Your "No Fuss/Go To" Tobacco?

Lately very fond of Borkum Riff Bronze. Lights easily, sometimes straight off the charring light and burns effortlessly. Wont bite unless provoked and is tasty and predictable.

    Pipe Suddenly Getting Hot

It can and does happen to me as well. Packing too tight can cause this as combustion needs oxygen and a tight pack makes you draw harder. Try packing with an air pocket at the bottom of the bowl. That and the breath method combined will help. Also some tobacco has a tendency to pack in a more...

    Amphora Full Aroma

My tastes have certainly changed. This is a nice smoke to have as a change of pace from Straight Virginias or VaPer blends.

    Amphora Full Aroma

I am alternating this blend with Borkum Riff. It burns slowly enough for a deep contemplative smoke. Great as a last smoke of the day.

    Amphora Full Aroma

Thanks for the kind reply. There is a certain complexity to this one and the small addition of oriental and dark fired make for an interesting smoke. Not your average aromatic, that's for sure.

    Amphora Full Aroma

Please would a mod change the title of this thread ? It is "Full Aroma" and not Bourbon. Put it down to a senior moment and a brain fart as I have been smoking Borkum Riff Bourbon. Many thanks .

    Amphora Full Aroma

Deepest apologies. This isn't a Bourbon blend. It is however very good. Can a mod please ammend the title for me ?

    Amphora Full Aroma

So, as you do, I took advantage of duty free allowance on my recent holiday and found a real bargain on the shelves of a tobacco and liquor store in Lanzarote. Amphora Red for a mere £4.50 per 50gm pouch. I last tried this blend when I was about 20 years old a scant 42 years ago. It was made in...

    Favorite “Plain” Tobacco

Solani Silver Flake 660 is one of my favorite un topped tobaccos. Mainy top quality Virginia and a little Dark Fired to give character. In the jar, it has an aroma of baked apple and cinnamon.

***What Are You Smoking, June 2023?***

Very good and very much to my taste. The genuine aged Bourbon casing really comes across in the smoke. The room note is great too. As a diabetic, I crave sweet things and this smokes cool and sweet as any blend I've tried. I used to like Players Whiskey flake and this scratches the same itch as...

***What Are You Smoking, June 2023?***

Borkum Riff Bourbon in my newly acquired falcon Bantam Bulldog accompanied by a mug of Mango and Passionfruit green tea.

    Small is Beautiful ?

Our Tobacco prices are insanely high and going higher every year. Slow burning baccy in a small pipe makes perfect sense in that respect.

    Small is Beautiful ?

Indeed so as a pipe is a very personal thing.

    Small is Beautiful ?

Yes, I don't fold and stuff, never worked well for me. Loosely rubbed and gently packed .

    Small is Beautiful ?

So I got to wondering why one should have at least one small pipe. Most of mine are medium + but today I got a Bantam bowl for my Falcon collection. It is very compact and bijou, but I think it may be the perfect vehicle for enjoying slow burning flakes, eg St Bruno. Also for a short smoke...

    Flexible Falcon

That's a very strange looking implement ! It has the same functionality as a Falcon but less of the aesthetic. I am currently awaiting a Shellalagh stem in black and purple. For gods sake I now need more bowls ! This is getting out of hand !
