Gervais One Meer For One Year 18/07/2023

I received a new Meerschaum pipe last week and I have decided to do the One Meer For One Year challenge! I will not smoke any other pipe but this one for one entire year. When this pipe arrived I noticed alot of interesting areas within the meerschaum, almost resembling pieces of broken glass...

Do You Prefer Briar, Meerschaum, or No Preference?

IIRC, polls were disabled due to so many poor ones. I tried to make this a voting pole, but I couldn't find that as an option. Which do you prefer, and why? For myself, I prefer briar for its esthetics and for the taste the wood adds to the smoke!

Barling Meers: A Hefty Price Tag!

These are quite a bit more expensive than most other top quality brands, like Imp, Altinays, ect. Are they supposed to be top teir in some way? Almost $500usd I'm seeing.

Are 9mm Meers Prone to Breaking?

I'm looking at a Barling meer, and they are all 9mm filter army mounts. Would any of you be concerned with the thinness of the meerschaum when they drill out for the filter? Thanks for your opinions!

    Peterson Supreme Sandblast Pipes!

I have always been a fan of a good blast on a pipe. The Supreme Pete's have really caught my eye when I see them, and I've recently seen a drop at SP. I'm assuming they go extremely fast because they are gone before I get logged in to check them out. These blasts are often amazing and craggy...

    Colouring of Yellow Waxed Meers

I have recently purchased a Reverse Calabash Meer waxed with the yellow beeswax. I am wondering if anyone has any examples of how they can colour. ChasingEmbers has stated that his brown waxed meer is actually lightening instead of darkening, which is interesting. My guess is that perhaps it...

    The Best Pipe-Drop Ever.

I have a Peterson spigot that had an extremely loose stem fitting right from the get go. It didn't fully spin around, but was loose enough that it could be easily sway back and forth 1/8" This area here: Anyways I smoked it regardless. Well yesterday I was climbing out of my work van and had...

    What Exactly Are "Dark Virginas"?

In several blends I've seen, the blender will use this term. For example: "Dark Virginas blended with dark-fired Kentucky and perique." Are they Browns? Reds?..... Both? Neither?? Lol.

Potential McClelland Christmas Cheer Rival? Perhaps!

This Carolina Red flake 2022 batch has quite the high natural sugar content. I also recall many of the Christmas Cheer blends containing the "Orange Tip" Virginias. I don't know you guys, but with the proper age..... This could be a worthy contender for those who miss the famous McClelland...

    More Mold Identification

Just cracked a box of dark plug from early this year. Doesn't smell off or anything. Has definate plume in the mix, but also a more dull, (powdery?) looking substance on it. Here are some pics. Would you guys smoke it?

Will Your Cellar be Viable For The Long Haul?

This is something that has been posted before, probably many times. I think it's important to bring it back up every once in a while for discussion. A good number of us have spent countless dollars on building a supply of tobacco that we hope will last us until we are shown the door. I know I...

Can Constant Relights Cause Premature Bowl Charring?

I wonder this as I go through an entire tube of butane smoking this Samuel gawith St James flake. Curse you, asbestos-ridden tobacco 🤬

Is This Real Cumberland, or Acrylic?

Hey all. These are Ser Jacopo pipes you see here. Do you guys think that they are actual Cumberland? To my knowledge, I thought Ser Jacopo only uses Acrylic, but these look like genuine vulcanite. Opinions welcome!

Really Like This Style of Sandblast!

I was googling blasts recently and came across an interesting one. I don't typically see this too often, and I'm constantly filing through pipes online. It appears to be an extremely deeply blasted Birdseye (cross grain?) Has anyone else come across these? What do you guys think of it? It's a...

Peterson B10. Are There Any Lovers/Haters of This Shape?

I've been drawn to this Peterson shape for some time now, but have never actually pulled the trigger. Can't put my finger on why that is. Do you guys have one? Like it, dislike it?

    Question Regarding Estate Pipe Condition

Smokingpipes does a good job with letting you know what condition an estate is in. I am interested in an estate that suggests "chamber carbonizing" is evident. Does this mean that the pipe is a candidate for a future burnout? Is a pipe in trouble when it has chamber carbonizing, in your opinion...

First Ever Smoke from a Meerschaum Pipe

Hey everyone! My very first meer arrived the other day an AKB gently canted billiard. Having my first smoke (some Old gowrie) from it and I must say, it's a very different experience than that of a briar. It's so "pure". Maybe a little too pure, dare I say. The taste of briar seems to add a...
