Help getting started with first pipes, tobacco, etc.

2-is a hotly debated topic referring to ghosting, I never did separate and it doesn’t bother me at all. I do have an English latakia pipe now, but more out of routine, than flavour. You will get the most of out of a single blend if you do dedicate though. 3-most probably disagree here, but I...

Help getting started with first pipes, tobacco, etc.

Yeah I think you’re on the right track, Rossi is a discount Sav line in case you didn’t know and can get a good pipe for around 70$... Cob is a good cheap starter option for most, but you seem like you might like it, so skip the cob and go briar, better with little aftertaste… Rossi, Sav or...

    Will Syrian Latakia Return?

My first good non-aro tobacco about 10 years ago was Peterson Old Dublin, still a great tobacco, but I’ve moved on to the more smokey Nightcap now for my Lat fix which is about 1/4 of my bowls these days, perfect balance of sweet nic and smoke. Anyhow, I have a few tins of Dublin from the late...

    Will Syrian Latakia Return?

Myself I don’t care, I doubt I ever smoked it…. Unless of course it could benefit the producers, locals, but it seems from comments here not. As long as I can still open a tin of English and it reeks of good herbal smoke, whether it is Syrian, Cyprian, or Turkish isn’t my concern.

Is It Better to Leave Unopened Tins in Their Tins or Jar Them?

that surprises me, as I just checked my Sutliff and C/D (smaller tall round tins) and yes they have cardboard sides added on, but the whole tin itself is all aluminum. Hobbiton Piper Kevin a YouTube host just opened a McClelland tin like that from the 90s, almost 30 yrs old and the tobacco was...

Is It Better to Leave Unopened Tins in Their Tins or Jar Them?

Yes Gawith tins have a bad rap, I’ve heard either way on them, followed by round flat metal tins being better, followed by those foil sealed tall round tins being the best.

***What Are You Smoking, December 2024?***

Smoking a lovely pipe of good English weed on my front deck watching the world and good people go by, drinking some Smokey whiskey and listening to music on a grey Sunday…

    Mason jars with a latch

I used those, good for a short run, after five years all my tobacco in those has completely dried, fortunately it’s stuff I don’t care too much about. They‘re OK for what you want though. Screw top mason jars are best, but those look like they’d be good.

A Look at STG Internal Documents Regarding the Mac Baren / Sutliff Buyout

Yes your signature clearly understands my point about sarcasm👌. I’m not going to get into the political discussion because as you noted it wasn’t my intention, my post was just a joke…. As for moral rot, there’s lots to go around, lots of places on this wonderful planet,,,🌎

A Look at STG Internal Documents Regarding the Mac Baren / Sutliff Buyout

Ennerdale, #1, deadly good. Some will say soapy, but the first note I get is dried fruits, oranges, then perfume second, but for whatever reason it works…. Tastes like a special virginia flake. 1792 Flake #2, I’m not sure if it’s a Lakeland or not, but wonderful smell and flavour too, but it’s...

A Look at STG Internal Documents Regarding the Mac Baren / Sutliff Buyout

Are you saying the OP here is Bradley in disguise plugging his own channel? I take it. He’s a likeable enough guy, I’d forgive him…

    Cob>Briar

Cobs belong in one place, the trash can,,,👌. Realistically if I had no other pipes, I’d be more than happy to smoke captain black in a cob, because I love pipe smoking that much,,, And I have no shame in their aesthetic, but briar and some meer wins for me for the reasons above. And if it’s...

Rare Russian Pipe? Need Help Identifying My Recent Purchase!

Yup, that’s a nice pipe for the price. You can rub olive oil, or even butter on that stem to keep it nice, vulcanite oxidizes easily, then rub off the excess.

    Why Buy Tins?

Context matters too, as a Canadian 70% of the price is tax/tariffs, so no real savings on bulk anymore, and if you did order too much they’d actually punish you more…. So bulk is actually more risky. And yes lots of stuff is not available in bulk. However, if I was American I’d probably order...

Planning return to piping with a change in direction.

You’re probably correct, the worst bite I ever had was after ribbon cut Virginias, now I primarily smoke flakes, plugs, ect except for English and old blends in my cellar… I only buy flakes and cakes for other reasons; depth of flavour is unmatched and richer, thicker mouth smoke feel, longer...

Planning return to piping with a change in direction.

My view is more simple, you should like basic aromatics, and if you don’t, maybe pipe smoking isn’t for you,,, Yes j-rk offs online go on about how bad they are, but a real pipe smoker would still prefer them to nothing. Tongue bite is generally part of the beginning of the process, like muscle...

    Thoughts On STG

As someone who’s gardened for over 30 yrs and worked on farms at times, currently I just grow houseplants, bonsai, and veg in my backyard…. The easiest part would be growing the tobacco, drying, curing, processing, pressing, casing, to get a modern style blend would be near impossible. Let...

Update on the STG Closure Of Sutliff and Mac Baren

Are you slow or something? Or a troll? I just explained how I meant to say STG under Dannes, because they own all those brands I mentioned, I UNDERSTAND. I also get they purchased Mac B, and now own all that stuff too…. Thats what we’ve been talking about for a week…? If you didn’t spend all...

Update on the STG Closure Of Sutliff and Mac Baren

Correct, or will be soon, old Mac B and spin-offs are still available, as this whole discussion involves STG taking over Mac B, and lines. Under Dannes I forgot to mention STG, which I did just after…. I still like some STG stuff now, NightCap. I meant we have other options in the US and UK.
