Hello everyone,
I'm quite new to the pipe hobby and recently came across a beautiful pipe on an auction site here in Sweden. The seller didn't know the brand, but the engraving looked Cyrillic to me.

After some research on Google, the only reference I could find was an old Russian article: Об иÑтории трубочных школ / РуÑÑÐºÐ°Ñ ÑˆÐºÐ¾Ð»Ð° - https://pipesite.ru/russkaya-shkola.html. When I search for the words "МИН ХЕРЦ" (which is what's written on the pipe) on the site, I translated the site and it seems to suggest that the pipe was made by Vladimir Grechukhin (Vladimir Grechukhin - Pipedia - https://pipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Grechukhin).

Is this true, and if so, is this a good pipe? Did I make a good purchase? I bought the pipe for 30 euros. I don't know much about pipes yet, so I'd love to hear from anyone with more experience.

I've attached several pictures that I received from the seller.
Have a nice evening everyone!

I know nothing of that brand but the briar bowl looks like excellent flame grain. The rustication part is neat and clean and symetrical. The brass crown looks tightly well fitted. IMHO, Yes, I would say thats an excellent purchase for 30 euros. Bent billiards are my favorite shape so yeah, I probably would have grabbed it as well had I been there first. Now, reading his background: you got a designer pipe for 30 euros ??? Yeah thats a homerun. 👍 P.S. the stem is top grade ebonite so it should last a long time but from the pictures it could use a polishing.

Thank you for this comment. It makes me happy to hear that I may have made a good purchase and that I will hopefully enjoy this pipe. I've been smoking a pipe for a few months now, once a week, and it's a hobby that has really given me time for reflection. Most importantly, it has brought me enjoyment and relaxation. I've been looking for a couple of quality pipes, and I've been searching the second-hand market since I'm a bit younger and on a budget. I hope the story is true and that this really is a Russian designer pipe.

Happy smoking! 👍

The article you linked says that Min Herz company had only existed for 3 years. You might have just purchased a very rare pipe for cheap!

Congratulations. The maker sounds like a classic artisan master. His pipes are made from briar and use Ebonite stems. Ebonite is made from hard rubber, partial vulcanite and are what clarinet stems are made from.

The company name that he created, "Min Hertz" must be a reference to the story of Peter I the Great. Peter I "the Great" had an assistant named Menshikov, and in the story, Menshikov referred to Peter I as "Mein Hertz", meaning My Heart in German. Peter had lived for years in Prussia where this was a polite address of respect to someone.

May I ask how long it is?

A very nice pipe for a very good price, enjoy it. If items like this that we find could only speak to us and maybe tell us of who its maker was, who bought it and smoked it and in who's company it might have been that would be fantastic. puffy
