Ghosting..Is it that Big of a Deal?

I’m part of the ghosting is overrated crew, over hyped, and smoke anything in anything, including strong Englishes and Lakelands. I also have decent senses and can pick out dominant single malts in blended whisky… above average. I do wipe my inside bowl with a paper towel and use a pipe...

    Are Expensive Cobs Better?

I guess I’ll state the obvious facts, left out of all that blabbering above, though I read it unfortunately😆 For 50$ buy a briar, unless money is of no concern it’s too high for a cob. One decent briar won’t necessarily lead to PAD any more than some cobs.. look at Rossi, or Brigham, or estate...

Will Italian Makers Ever Switch Back to Ebonite/Vulcanite Stems?

Most makers are using acrylics these days because they last longer and withstand scratches and holes better than other materials. They can also make great colours, that simple. You can wrap the upper stem in black electric tape to soften it or protect it. It will smell plastic for a few...

Jifeng Old Boy Lighter Knock Off Adventure

Those lighters seem pretty good for someone looking to save a bit, Bradley of “Stuff and things” on YouTube said his was lasting…. A lot of people also report Kiribi’s and old boys breaking too, but they do have good warrenties… But if you’re looking to buy a good one, do you waste money on a...

Has Your Palate for Tobacco Changed Over Time?

Certainly have, It took just under 15 yrs but know exactly what I like now and could live with that forever, but I might discover something else. English flake tobacco like Ennerdale 1792 Flake, English blends, good aros, and Virginia flake, I like a good mix.

    Cellaring question

Ball jars or canning jars, are what you want, not the jars with the thick orange rubber seal, my tobacco in those has all started to dry after 3 years, luckily it is stuff I don’t care too much about, and I have mostly ball jars now. but nothing should dry in a month in any storing condition...

    A few beginner questions

Gonna make this comment! Meer indeed. 20-100$ US is a little too pricey for a cob, they are meant to be a cheap pipe, 10-40$. Yes for 50$ US you should be able to get a decent smoking Meer in Turkey that would likely cost 75-150$ in the US.

Has Sir Walter Raleigh Original Changed Recently?

I guess I have a rare tobacco then. Bought this SWR aro pouch in 2021, smoked a bowl and although it smelled good, liquorice chocolate didn’t have enough nic and body to keep me interested, so I cellared it and used the pouch for daily adventures… it says produced by STG lane limited made in...

    Alternatives to Whiskey & Pipe

Whiskey‘s pretty much all I drink in terms of booze, and beer when I’m trying to save coin. But seldom together, while whiskey may enhance the tobacco flavour, the tobacco will ruin the whiskey flavour, still worth it though if that’s what’s wanted. I like beer and a pipe probably more, like J...

***What Are You Smoking, September 2024?***

still a really attractive pipe, a kinda magical shape…. A nice pipe, is a nice pipe.

    Adverse Reactions to Toothpaste?

Yes mainstream commercial toothpaste is more likely to have irritating harsh chemicals Vs stuff like Toms of Maine, more natural.

    Fishing With Your Pipes

casting lures for early spring lake trout, nothing that day. It’s pretty easy to shore fish just put your pipe down for a bit, boat fishing I’d never use a pipe. Ice fishing I primarily smoke cigars. That’s a giant cat, didn’t know they even got that big here, the Europeans have a huge one...

***What Are You Smoking, August 2024?***

Smoking some new Sunbear in a Neerup, good stuff similar to other years, what I’d want and expect, with a side of Canadian whisky, decent stuff for a Canadian.

Didn't Worry About Packing and Guess What?

Yeah I’ve tried a few methods, Frank and others, but settled on pinch push finger or thumb or tamp lightly till it’s firm but not tight and repeat, I’m guessing 4-6 packs per bowl, but do it subconsciously now, until it’s 3/4 full and take a dry puff for airflow…. No thought happens anymore...

Jim's C&D Sun Bear Black Locust 2024 (Small Batch) Review.

It waa it was your destiny to get a tin, you got lucky,,, 🍀 Sells out fast unfortunately, and to me worth the hype, but there’s lots of good smoke out there.

Your Disappointing Pipe: Ugly, Runs Hot, etc.

Just last week. Bought this nice Neerup, he makes two sizes of bent apple (and several styles), and the big ones are around 70 grams, the small 55-60. This was listed at 62 grams on SP.com, but when I weighed it it came in at 72. Big in the hand, harder to clench, seems like a small...

What Pipe Brand Don’t You Own But Want To?

Ardor too. I’d like a couple, and they are about 400-450$ each, 2 car payments is a tad high for a nice pipe currently, but I’m happy with my collection. I have seen nice estate Ardors for around 200$ occasionally, so maybe next year or two one of those. They offer incredible aesthetics.

    Meerschaum - Don't Touch?

When I spill some food or drink on my unfinished wood table and wipe it up the stain looks better than before, and creates a memory... So you’re supposed to stain a Meer with smoke, but not with your hands, seems an odd idea to me... hmm.

Help Me Spend $192USD - Yes, You Read That Correctly

Hard call, boils down to what your needs are…. As a Canuck we are getting racked over the coals on tobacco duties, but pipes average about 30$ Canadian per pipe, which is consistent and not too bad. As someone building a cellar, I’d get all tobacco and you are allowed 4 tins tax free per adult...
