PSA (long): New Smokers: You Do Not Need An Expensive Pipe

I've got a Rossi that i picked up for about $55. Excellent pipe! That combined with a couple of straight stemmed cobs, I really don't 'need' anything else.... of course 'need' is relative and I might pick up another briar at some point... but functionally for the occasional smoker I am, I have...

So is US Pipe Smoking on the Rise... Or Decline?

Without seeing some financials of some of these companies, correlating that against the economy and changes in population, it's all very hard to see. Here's two impressions: 1. Brick and Mortar stores of all types are in general competing with online sales. The little town I am from seems to...

    VaBur Recommendations

Absolutely enjoying this new to me smoking hobby. I have been smoking mainly VAs and VaPers, but after going off of aromatics pretty much a friend recently brought me a tin of Sørensen Mixture from Norway and it reminded me that the adventures of discovery in pipe smoking never ends. A+ Great...

    Tongue Is Disgusting

I recently started smoking a pipe. I burned my tongue to a crisp and through trial and error, and leaning into the community here I finally started getting good smokes. Here’s some of my personal learnings. (Your experience may be different) - pick a non-aromatic tobacco that is reportedly easy...

*** What Are You Smoking? *** (October, 2019)

Continuing my exploration of VaPers - Peter Stokkebye Luxury Bullseye Flake in a M.M. Rob Roy straight stemmed cob. This with the autumn colors off of my deck, made for a wonderful hour of slow smoking!

Attn Newbies - If I Had It To Do Over Again.

Since writing the original post, I have acquire a total of three cobs and one briar. One of the many great things about cobs for new smokers starting out, is that they are inexpensive and this allows for cheap way to dedicate a pipe to each category of tobacco.

Missouri Meerschaum American Patriot Tobacco Review

This is an awesome review. I was wondering about this. Many thanks!

    Jim's Sutliff Eastfarthing Review.

Ok. Very helpful. I will give this a go at some stage. Thanks for the review. :) As popular as Frog Morton appeared to be to some, I wonder if it will ever come back to life again.

How Many Bowls a Day Do You Smoke?

On average five bowls a week.

Pipe Smoking Study, It Doesn't Look Good.

I agree. I think the smoking awareness campaign did some good to help us understand the long term risks. But as many things often go, the pendulum swings to the other extreme. Now it is simply crazy. I think it time to consider other health risks

    Jim's Sutliff Eastfarthing Review.

Thank you for this. I thought I read somewhere that this was inspired by Frog Morton. Don't know if that is true or not, or even if it is a fair comparison. With that said, out of curiosity do you see this as anything similar to Frog Morton?

    Tounge Bite

@Patrick_Green - which tobacco are you smoking? As a new smoker, if I had it to do over again, I would avoid aromatics. Prince Albert and Carter Hall just made life a bit easier to manage tongue bite and then as time went on I went back to some aromatics.

    Blends Similar To BCA?

BCA was the first tobacco I smoked. I loved it immediately and I thought this would be the only tobacco I would ever smoke. Oh how things change with time. I am currently on a Virgina kick due to the input of @npod and a few others, but I do circle back from time to time to BCA.

    Unpopular Opinion - I Dont Like 1-Q

In my limited experience over the last several months as a new piper, 1Q has become for me the ‘bread and butter’ of pipe smoking. Nothing super special, but mild, predictable and satisfying. I can see why it could not appeal to some though.
