Anyone Else Enjoy Piping With Their Kids?

Yup. My son in law and now his wife my daughter smokes pipes. We smoke on special occasions (I.e. my birthday). It started with cigars because all of my kids like smoking cigars as something special to do with dad. I don’t normally smoke cigars, so when they are about to come home for a visit...

How Many Bowls a Day Do You Smoke?

Since I started in May last year it is probably an overall average of 5 bowls a week, but can go as low as 3 or even less, effected by business travel as much as anything as my schedule and circumstances make it hard to smoke on the road. Weather is also a factor because I can only smoke...

***What Are You Smoking? January 2020.***

Took a break from my Burley kick and opened a newly bought tin of Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake. Paired it with a healthy shot of Jim Beam double oak on the rocks. Nice! :)

    Which Side of The Mouth?

I move the pipe around, but I favor the left for some reason.

To Cellar or Not to Cellar

Is anyone maintaining a list of recent blends that could be under threat from deeming?

To Cellar or Not to Cellar

I have this going in my favour. So far, everything I have smoked I have liked so far, except maybe for heavy Latika... but I plan on revisiting this as my tastes are changing and it is possible that I will like it more.

To Cellar or Not to Cellar

This is excellent and practical advice! I am thinking at least of doing a 'two for one'... always buy at least double and storing what I am not going to use.

To Cellar or Not to Cellar

About eight months... though I should qualify this in that I mostly only have time to smoke one pipe in a day and sometimes I will go days without smoking due to work and travel commitments.

To Cellar or Not to Cellar

It may be a bit early still, but as a new piper I have not really yet considered whether I should create a cellar because my tastes have not been developed yet. However, I can see a few possible favourites starting to emerge. Also reading on here, I am seeing that some are cellaring in...

Newbies - As a Followup from My 'If I Had it to Do Over Again...'

EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9) - Bob It's a new year and I am starting to march towards my first anniversary of taking up the briar. At the end of July, I posted some of my reflections to new smokers working to get into the hobby. You can read it here...

Recommendations of Tobacco Blends for a New Pipe Smoker

CH is not to everyone’s liking, but I agree. I find CH is low maintenance and therefore ideal to do chores with because it will practically smoke itself. Also at least for me, CH has also been excellent for working on my technique. This morning in fact I fired up some CH. I could have...

Tobacco Tastes the Same as Cigarettes

The OP hasn’t posted since early December, so that might be the end of it except for new smokers who are lurking and reading threads like this. My biggest regret as a new smoker was to start with an aromatic. I recently encouraged a new fellow smoker who is struggling with the same advice...

Smoked Pegasus in a straight stemmed apple shaped Rossi and then for a long walk with Orlik Golden Sliced in a straight stemmed Rob Roy MM cob. Nice Sunday afternoon!

Question For Everyone New And Old.

As a new piper, I don’t know yet if I can tell the subtile differences between some blends in the same genre. I kind of doubt I ever will because unless there is a big difference, I can’t easily pick up and describe the subtile differences in other products like coffee or wine. I don’t seem to...

    Your First Pipe & Tobacco

May 9, 2019 - MM Country Gentleman cob, Lane BCA and a worthless butane lighter that I wound up throwing away. It was a cool quiet evening on the back porch that I remember vividly. In spite of doing a ton of reading and looking at videos, I struggled to keep my tobacco lit and had my first...

So is US Pipe Smoking on the Rise... Or Decline?

Funny the timing of this thread... yesterday I smoked with a couple of millennials. One was smoking a pipe, the other a cigar. I don't want to type cast any generation, but in the course of conversation we got to talking about their views about pipe smoking. Both said that the effort to learn...
