    Rubbing Out Flakes.

I pretty much follow the same process as minerLuke effectively describes in page 3. Fold, stuff the bended section in the pipe first, and rough up the open ends a little to catch flame. I add some loose left overs as a type of kindling. That said, I do need to allow the flake to dry some...

    Smelling Pipe Tobacco

I keep the bulk of my tobacco bunker in my basement near the workout area. In between sets of weight lifting I will sometimes unscrew the top of my open jars (not those being aged long term) and take a whiff. Not the same as smoking a bowl, but as it’s 20 degrees outside, a quick sniff hits...

    Meatloaf

I do a ketchup coating with yellow mustard and brown sugar mixed in - no exact measures as I primarily cook by taste (drives my wife nuts) Spread it on the top with about 20 minutes to go so it caramelizes somewhat. Of course dinner includes mashed potatos and green peas (mixed together).

    What's For Dinner?

Tooth pick night. We started it when my boys were around 5 and 6 years old. Everything has to be eaten with a tooth pick around the kitchen island. It’s a great way to use whatever is leftover or in abundance in the fridge. Veggies, fruit, cheese, pickles, leftover meats, shrimp, etc…. It’s...

    Dry January?

My wife and I did a dry January last year and are planning one again this year. It serves as a nice reset after an over indulgent holiday season. I plan on upping the exercise and water intake. Possibly going back on a keto diet. Anyone else planning on it? Any best practices?

    New Family Member

Nicely done. My experience is that rescue pets seem to know what have done for them and are very loyal. Great Christmas gift for you both. Have fun.

    Dad Advice

Really solid advice on the thread. Congratulations on your impending child. A few things that helped and continue to help with my two sons 23 and 21: Be patient with your children, wife, and yourself. Strive for the best, but expect mistakes along the way. They will remember the good and...

Tried Sazerac Rye for the First Time Last Night.

Wow Sham all three of those are impossible to get in my area. Great haul and enjoy your bounty with family and friends.

    Air Fryer

They work great to reheat pizza, fries, hamburgers etc. they help avoid the soggy microwave heating. also great with chicken thighs/wings, pork chops…..just avoid sugary rubs and sauces as they will burn. And yes - steaks are actually pretty good in an AF if it’s too cold to use my Wbber Kettle.

    What's your Favorite Coffee Mug?

I have a few mugs with back stories and personal meaning, but 90% of the time I use my metal travel cup as I hate cold or luke warm coffee and tea (iced excluded). It’s a little strange to sit in my family room with a traveler cup, but darn if it isn’t piping hot.

What Are You Drinking? December 2023

A friend and I went to an upscale Scotch tasting last night. Tasted 14 quarter ounce samples of bottles ranging from $100 to $4800. We both found the 40 and 46 year old scotches to lack finish. They were good, but not that much better than most of the other bottles. I came home with a...

    Any Tea Drinkers?

Some Earl Grey or Irish/English breakfast tea is a nice change up from black coffee for me. The fancier and exotic ones sound great, but I think they escape my palate at this point.

What Are You Drinking? December 2023

My wife and I went to a Bhakta Armagnac tasting last night. Tasted several vintages including our birth years. Armagnac is new to me, but so far I am enjoying it.

    Going Through My Closet

I go through my closets every February when the weather keeps you inside. I also clean out all storage and closets a few times a year as I hate waste and clutter. I turn all my hangers around so the loop is facing out. If it is still that way the next year, then I obviously did not wear the...

My First Tobacco Review: Sutliff Crème Brûlée

I found that cutting it with Carter Hall by 1/3 or so took some of the excessive sweetness and wetness away. It has a nice sweet flavor so maybe dessert and the excess calories can be avoided.

    Night Owls

My typical night is lights off around 10:30, asleep in 5 minutes, and the. Up around 3:00 ish to pee (56 years old so I guess it goes with the territory). Sometimes I get another couple of hours, most times I am up for the day. I operate on 4-6 hours most nights and seem to be ok as I rarely...

    How often...

I can’t help but sometimes think about the parallels of the ancient Roman Empires fall and some of the challenges we are facing in the world. And that Rome is one of my favorite cities I have ever visited, so lots of memories pop up.

    Sacrilege - Finished Whiskey

As I am retired - isn’t everyday Friday (or Saturday?) I have a couple of pork shoulders smoking since early am, so I felt a little taste this afternoon was acceptable. Cheers - enjoy your weekend friends.

    Sacrilege - Finished Whiskey

Traditional whiskey/whisky is generally in my glass the majority of the time I am having an adult beverage. That said, sometimes a nicely done finished whiskey really hits the spot. Barrel Craft Seagrass or The Macallan 12 year Sherry finish are two good examples. I just popped two Starlight...

    RIP Charlie Munger

You make a great point about excessive fiddling. It has taken me years to learn how to not out think myself by trade too often. As Jack Bogle said “Don’t do something. Just stand there.” Time in the market is more important than timing the market.
