Smoking Tobacco Based on the Season - Yes or No?

I am open to anything at anytime as the mood hits, but I do have a tendency to smoke Latakia more in the colder months just I have the tendency to drink peatier scotch in the same weather. VA and burley are similar to bourbon - any and all times are open season. Cheers

    Which Tobacco after Which Meal?

Aromatics as a calorie free dessert alternative.

    How Many Open Blends?

Open and in rotation: 9 Aeros, 6 VA/vapers, 3 English, and Carter Hall as the prerequisite coffee accompaniment.

    Which Beverage with which Tobacco?

Water always refreshes the pallet and allows the tobacco to come through. Coffee with burley is a no brainer. I love a nice whiskey with cigars, but find that the higher proof overwhelms the nuance of pipe tobacco.

    Escudo Alternative

PS Bullseye, Navy, and twist with some age on them, while not a direct alternate for Escudo, does offer an interesting smoke. I have about a pound of them from 2016 that tastes great, too bad I still get tongue bite from VA.

What Are You Drinking ? February 2024

It was 70 degrees yesterday, so I poured a couple of gin and tonics while I grilled bone in pork chops. It is going to be cold today so likely a few porters at trivia night at a local craft brewery.

    What’s for Lunch?

Homemade cheesy broccoli soup and keto toast. Lots of fresh cracked black pepper for the soup.

What Are You Drinking ? February 2024

Last night was cheap Sam’s Club vodka stored in the freezer with some jalapeño olives and dry vermouth marinated cocktail onions. Sinatra on the stereo and meatball pasta on the plate. I did not even bother shaking the drink, straight into a double old fashion glass.

Coursety of the Red White and Blue.

Enjoyed his music and appreciated his support of the military. I think he did close to 20 USO tours to entertain soldiers who were 1,000s of miles from home.

What are You Watching? [2024] Please Rate 1-5

My wife and I binge watched Fool Me Once (Netflix) in one day. Pretty good story and the lead actress is gorgeous and a good actress. 4.5/5 rating.

    Bourbon Reviews

The Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof are definitely a step up within the lineup if you enjoy bourbon and rye neat or with some ice. Nothing wrong with a Jack No7 and Diet Coke as well.

Meaning of "Enjoying an Adult Beverage"

My in-laws all live in Wisconsin so I can confirm the rumors of the state residents enjoying a glass or two, although growing up in Ohio I believe drinking pretty much a mid-west US trend.

    What's For Dinner?

Smoked baby back ribs, homemade Savoy Cabbage slaw, and a cold beer are on the menu tonight. It’s approaching 50 degrees in the Chicago area today, so the Weber kettle grill is heating up for a little winter work out. I bought some Rum barrel wood chips for the source of smoke.

    Dry January?

Welcome February 1st. I just concluded my dry January and may have a drink later tonight. It was easier than expected (I recommend it at least one month a year or some other self imposed dry interval to prove we are still master of our domains) even though my wife and I went out to dinner...

Why is Everything so Damn Expensive?

I live in the US and over the past three years inflation is up around 17%, previous trends a three year run rate should be around 6-7%. That additional 10% is likely never recoverable for those of us lucky enough to have a pension (which is not indexed to inflation). I feel for my sons in...

Olive Oil: Which Has The Best Flavour?

I have been to one in California and one in Florida. Both times they had 20 plus styles and flavors with little shot glasses and small cubes of bread. Pretty neat way to taste new flavors and styles. I prefer the fruitier flavor, both natural and with add ins.

    French Onion Soup

Not a direct answer to the OP, but I have had it with a little bit of blue cheese on top of the crouton/bread and under the melted cheese. Worth trying it if you are making it at home. It adds a nice pungency.

    How much

My wife has been buzzing mine with a Wahl trimmer for the last 25 plus years. It has gotten sparser and sparser, so I just do a blade only trim in the shower every week. I guess balding has saved me $10,000 over the years - always an optimist.
