*** What Are You Smoking?*** (January 2017)

The last of a generous sample of Black house in an Edward's Algerian Briar bent billiard

    Best OTC Recommendation

Carter Hall here. Prince Albert just never did it for me. Years ago I smoked a Walgreen's burley that was available in a giant f***in' bag. Haven't seen that for a long time though

Brown Sugar Flake: Review With Pictures.

I'm jealous of what you guys available there. I suppose that works both ways though. "The grass is always greener on the other side," and all that.

    Wooden filters vs charcoal filters

I think that's a very worthy project very deserving of further study. I volunteer to be a victim subject of that study

What Music Are You Listening To? - January 2017

Sisters of Mercy "Floodland". Great little trip down memory lane of my high school girlfriend and I. My favorite Tom Waits album Mayfair. I like a lot of his stuff for many different reasons, but that album is the most enjoyable to me on a regular basis.

    Wooden filters vs charcoal filters

Wow, cool little experiment and observation woodsroad. I would have responded that the balsa doesn't actually filter (my impression from using them occasionally), but I guess I was wrong.

What's The Strangest Thing You Have Found In Your Tobacco?

I swear, that body was in the tobacco when I got here! Reading all of this, I feel lucky that I only found a small piece of string once. Hair, tarp, feathers.... Yikes!

    Samuel Gawith Blends and Quality

SG is top quality stuff IMHO. Weather or not it appeals to any given individual is, of course, a matter of personal taste. I have always found their quality and consistency top notch. I look forward to trying Brown Sugar Flake myself someday after reading about it, but it looks like I'll need...

    Going between jar and pouch

Pouch has always been fine for me for a few days. For a week vacation, I usually bring a pouch with enough for the first couple days and an unopened tin for the rest of the time. Always works out well.

    Securty Took my Tamp Away

Sorry to hear about your daughter. Best Wishes for a speedy recovery. On the up side, you get to hold it over her that she owes you a replacement tamper. Might get a smile from her.

The Circus Ain't Coming To Town

Sad that future generations won't be able to see it. I always found most of the circus a bit boring personally, but now I wish I had taken my kids at least to see it once.

    Rant - I'm Sure I'm Not Alone

I don't disagree. In school, we had to learn, at a minimum, how to communicate using the written word. Also, having gone to Catholic schools, penmanship was stressed very heavily also. I am just trying to give others the benefit of the doubt since all our brains are wired a bit differently. I...

    War Horse Tin Seal

Cool, it sounds like I have nothing to worry about. Thanks for the feedback, Woodsroad. And, yes, I want a tin seal. Even better would be a tin seal that is a sealed tin of tobacco. Maybe SToP's new project: Tin Seal blend... @guyrox - glad you noticed it too. I wondered if it was just me...

    Rant - I'm Sure I'm Not Alone

I've turned off my brain as much as possible to being bothered by typos, spelling, and grammatical mistakes. When it bothers me, as it too often does, I just remind myself that while I'm fairly well spoken and well written, I'm a mental midget in math. We all have our strengths and shortcomings.

    War Horse Tin Seal

Just posting to see if anyone else has noticed this and if any of the esteemed SToP forum members have any advice. I bought a few tins each of War Horse Bar and Green about a month ago and promptly jarred a tin of each which reside on my kitchen table smoking prep area. The other "sealed" tins...

    My first cob smoke

Yeah, bottom of the bowl is definitely not the best point of a cob, but the awesome rest of the smoke more than makes up for it. Cobs are great smokers and really all a pipe smoker needs.... although I do still enjoy the beauty and hand feel of a briar most of the time.

Dunhill Pipes: I (May) Finally Have an Opinion

I'd like to see Nate's response to this since he has quite the Dunhill collection. I don't have any Dunhill's myself, but if budget allowed I'd buy one to round out my collection. They have a few shapes and finishes which appeal to me. Is a high grade "worth it" as far as smoking qualities...

Why the big love with English blends? Smell is terrible

I like the taste of latakia quite a bit and absolutely love the aftertaste. I held off smoking it for years because of the smell (until about '09), but now the smell makes me crave a nice lat blend.

    And some more

Very nice! Please keep posting pics of your pipes. I enjoy seeing the diversity of styles. You are certainly not a 'one trick pony.'
