New to pipes, former cig smoker

Welcome! as a former cig smoker myself, I highly encourage you to try different blends and find some that really help satisfy that nic urge. I often smoke the higher nic blends myself. I don't crave in the same way anymore, but I REALLY enjoy nicotine. Yeah, it is a different experience and...

    HU Tobacco still open

Good news indeed! I've been meaning to order some Director's cut, especially since I was gifted some by Nate and found it delicious, but my budget hasn't really allowed and probably won't for some time. I hope they keep on selling. I'd like to stock up on DC and sample a few of the others...

    Cake Questions

I'm a big fan of the Senior Reamer. It seems pretty unpopular around here due to the danger of over-reaming, but you can very easily be gentle with it. When my pipes build up a little too much carbon, for my preference, I use it (pretty gently). It's also magic for estate pipes IMHO.

The new digs look nice. Be sure to warn your smoking buddy on the dangers of 2nd hand smoke

What Are Your Favorite Nicotine Bombs?

Another vote for 1792! Amazing blend. Also like Brown Irish x/Brown Bogie/Coconut Twist/ Maple twist. None of them are big head spinners or hiccup blends for me, I have quite the nicotine tolerance --- but I do get that pleasant spacey/throat tightening feeling from them. Yes Shutterbug, I...

    Christmas Tunes

I'll preface by saying, I love this time of year. For me, it has the association of large family gatherings (even though most of them are a comfortable 2,000 miles away now :P ), and more recently, the joy of watching my kids enjoy the holiday. I've always collected some of the offbeat...

    My tobacco jarring method

@Yaddy - That's my highly technical method also. @stevuke79 - I'll agree w/ others that you don't need heat. You're not trying for a vacuum seal - many brands are not originally packaged w/ a vacuum seal. Whatever you choose to do, I'm sure you'll be fine

Congrats to Jim. You managed to achieve that post count mostly talking about tobaccos. I enjoy your posts and look forward to more

    Cake Questions

There is no "Rule" and I would suggest just smoking what you enjoy to break in a new pipe. It seems several others here do what I do and don't really allow much of a cake to build. I gently scrape the bowl with a dull pipe knife after each smoke and clean with a bristled pipe cleaner. That...

    Jim's H&H Viprati Review

a bit of a necro resurrection, but I thought it better to add to Jim's eloquence rather than stumble through my own review. I love VAPers, and have a few favorites, but this may take priority in my rotation. I was gifted a tin by my secret santa and have been enjoying this immensely for the...

    HBO TV Series 'Deadwood'.

I'll add to the endorsements of Boardwalk Empire. The first 2 seasons were, IMO, some of the best television ever made. The entire series was great.

Modern Classic Movies Everyone Needs To Watch In Their Lifetime

"..and I guess that was your accomplice there in the chipper..." Marge Gunderson has to be an all time classic movie character

    Rope/Twist tobacco storage

You had me at I've never bought that quantity, so jarring was probably a bit easier for me, but I second the opinion of don't cut it up

C&D Corn Cob Pipe and a Button Nose

I enjoy an aromatic from time to time and I think Corn Cob Pipe is a nice one. Has decent strength and a nice flavor. Although, I prefer to mix it 50/50 with Carter Hall since the flavor becomes a little overwhelming for me after the first 1/3 of the bowl

Modern Classic Movies Everyone Needs To Watch In Their Lifetime

Now you guys have gotten me curious. I'll have to see if Blockbuster has "Donnie Darko" on the ol' betamax Seriously though. I'd never heard of the movie, but now I'm very interested to see it. I'll be watching it as soon as I get the chance. I was happy to see a Coen bros. movie on there, I...

    Case Pocket Knives

I own a few case knives and like them very much, but I have to agree with bluegrassbrian. GEC is by far my favorite. I love both their Northfield line and the more economical (kind of) Tidioute line. Both are high carbon steel and just great knives. Case ar great too though. Very classy.

Which Bourbon For A Brit Newbie?

Same here. Don't drink anymore, but liked Basil Hayden's quite a bit. I actually enjoyed the entire whiskey family -Bourbon, Tennessee, American small batch, scotch, Irish.... you get the idea. Of the choices you have Jay, I'll go with the other opinions here and endorse the Knob Creek. I...

    What are You Reading?

What is this "Hitchhiker's" book to which you refer? His Dirk Gently books are good also. I've read everything Mr. Moore has written. It's the humor of a 12 year old boy at times, but with more clever turn of phrase. The guy's an immature comic genius IMO

    Pizza Questions

Usually fridge. I prefer the leftover pizza or chicken cold. I like cold next day spaghetti too.
