    Rehydrating tobacco

jpmcwjr: the tobacco crumbles when you touch it, so it is overly dry. On the topic of distilled water... Would be interesting to hear if anyone actually had any experience with mold. I will store the tobacco for some time, so I don't want to take any risk. Has any one tried the method of...

    Rehydrating tobacco

That's an interesting trick that I will have to try. But I had bad luck storing tobacco with some jars that where not fully airtight, so I have a lot of dry tobacco now that needs rehydrating.

    Rehydrating tobacco

Hi! What is your recommendations for how to best rehydrate dry tobacco? My problem is that I don't have distilled water at home. Is this crucial? Is not the steam from boiling water just the same as distilled water (in condensed form)? And if so, what about rehydrating with heat (see the first...

    Difficult pipe mechanics

I don't think the airway is restricted or blocked in any way. But the pipe is constructed with a very narrow stem. I guess this is the problem. In every other aspect is a beautiful pipe, so I'm a bit surprised why it is constructed in this way.

    Difficult pipe mechanics

I dont't think so, because it smoked better when I packed it a bit tighter.

    Difficult pipe mechanics

There is no problem with any obstructions in the shank or anything. So the problem is not that I can't get enought air-flow through the pipe, it is rather the opposite problem. So yes, by "half a mouthful" I had in mind that the smoke is too thin and airy.

    Difficult pipe mechanics

Hi! I am not new to smoking pipe, so this is not a beginner's mistake type of question on how to smoke a pipe. But I have a problem with one of my pipes. Actually, I have a semi-large collection of estate pipes and this is a problem that I have with more than one pipe. I will try to describe...

    Drying tobacco & nicotine effect

I never meant to suggest that drying would raise the nicotine level in the tobacco itself. So yes, it would be a question of absorption. And the reason why the absorption would be affected, that would be explained, according to my thinking, by the burning chemistry. But, I guess you would need...

    Drying tobacco & nicotine effect

Hi all! I have been experimenting with drying my flake tobacco for an extra long time to see what effect it would have on the taste, Peterson's University flake to be more precise. I have been drying it, or air curing it, all together for like 12 hours or so. So yes, the moisture level is very...

    Shank too tight

Thanks for all replies! You know what, to my surprise the first and easiest trick suggested by mothernature actually did the trick. I just took a pencil and rubbed graphit on the tenon and then: perfect fit! I was not ignorant about this method but I did not even consider it at first because I...

    Shank too tight

Hi all, I left my favorite briar pipe lying on the windowsill for several weeks expoused to sunlight (stem separated from pipe). That was a big mistake. Now the stem no longer fits into the shank of the pipe. My conjecture is that it is the expousure to tempurature changes due to direct sunshine...

    Dry tobacco

Yes, you are right, my mistake, the re-releas is still in production. I was misinformed because I had only looked at the old Durbar page on tobaccoreviews.com. But now I saw that there is actually a different page for the re-release. Good news for me - Dunbar is still out there!

    Dry tobacco

Thanks for replies! I will try re-hydrating some of it and see if it gets better. I will also take the advice and experiment with using it as a blending tobacco, that sounds like a good idea for RY. Actually, the only Dunhill tobacco I've really enjoyed so far is Durbar, but sadly they stopped...

    Dry tobacco

Hi! I am returning to a tin of Dunhill's Royal Yacht that I was too lazy to put in a sealed jar. So it has just been sitting in the tin for 5 months now. The tobacco is now a bit dry and I find the taste acrid and harsch, not very good. I remember that I did not like it when I first smoked it...

    Alcohol-metod gone wrong

Your responses has made me question if it really was the alcohol method gone wrong. But I am still a bit unsure. I am beginning to speculate whether it could be a combination of ghosting that was also intensified by the alcohol not fully dried out. I probably failed in my attempt to use cotton...

    Alcohol-metod gone wrong

sablebrush52: Thank you for the advice. I found several videos on youtube demonstrating the method. It might be the next step for me, if I could find a nice retort. This is what I love with pipe restoration, stuff I would never think of before suddenly becomes interesting.

    Alcohol-metod gone wrong

tobaccojoe: What I meant by doing it properly is to let the pipe dry out for at least a week after alcohol and cotton/salt method. Interesting that you only let it dry for 3 days with no problems. Som maybe it could have been the ghosting that was the problem after all. But the taste was so...

    Alcohol-metod gone wrong

I believe I accidently smoked a pipe just a couple of days after I had done the alcohol and cotton method. I had bought a lot of new pipes and forgot that I had used the alcohol method for this particular pipe. Stupid mistake, yes. The taste confused me at first. I woundered if the pipe was...
