*** What Are You Smoking?*** (September 2019)

Sutliff Golden Age as a RYO in a hemp wrapper.

Suggestions for a custom blend, please.

I want to try my hand at creating my own blend of English/Balkan/American. I have blending dark fired Kentucky burley, Latakia, and Perique, PS 701 Virginia, and black cavendish. I intend to press it for some time then slice it. Success would be something that might resemble Escudo. This is my...

    Insects in my pipe tobacco

Russ (blendtobac): Thank you for your response. I called your 800 number and explained my problem. After reading your reply to the operator she quickly agreed to send me a replacement. For your information, I ordered the Ryback Regular as a bulk product and it came to me in a large ziplock bag...

    Military Pipe Smokers

I was also in 2nd of the 7th and was a Supply officer in a forward support company for several Infantry battalions. Our little compound of Camp McKenzie was in the middle of a rice paddy just north of Munsan and about 8 miles south of the DMZ. We went to sleep every night with the faint sound of...

    Military Pipe Smokers

This is a side note, but I am interested to know that the First Calvery is back in Korea. I served in the 1st Calv in 1964 when I was first sent to South Korea. During 1965 the unit organization was transferred to Vietnam and we became part of 4th Army. Now it appears that the unit is back in...

    Insects in my pipe tobacco

I very recently ordered a pound of Ryback Regular from P&C. I smoked a couple of bowls then noticed in the reviews that many use this as a RYO. I put some tobacco in a tube injector and noticed a small brown insect which I smashed between my fingers. Never saw that before. I rolled a second...

Have You Ever Had a Pipe Blend That Made You Feel Slightly Ill?

Dark Fired Kentucky and 5 Brothers will make me light-headed, but the only blend that made me almost puke was Cult Blood Red Moon. The strong cherry flavor made me gag. Guess I'm not a fan of cherry tobaccos.

    New MM 150th Anniversary Pipe

I ordered a new Franklin from MM and requested another vulcanite stem to replace the one I chewed a hole in on the first Bully. They replied (nicely) that replacement stems are not available but suggested one of their Danish stems. Ah well.

    A Very Supportive Article

When asked if I would like a drink I simply say no. If asked for a reason I say it's because I don't want to have to turn in my 27 year AA chip. That generally ends the discussion.

    New MM 150th Anniversary Pipe

I bought the first pipe and love it but have managed to chew a hole in the original stem. MM says a replacement is not available for it. I am ordering the new one and requesting an extra vulcanite stem to serve for a replacement for the previous one. Wish me luck.

Accosting a Pipe Smoker In The Wild

My wife and I were on a cruise last spring along with around 5000 other passengers. One of the designated smoking areas was outside next to the rooftop swimming pool and I wandered up there several times each day to smoke a pipe. Only once all week did I see another pipe smoker. He was an older...

    It's all relative.

I think I've cured my PAD and TAD. After a spirited discussion with my wife, I realized that a divorce was much more expensive than additional pipes and tobacco.

    Down Time in the Field

@Mrslaughter - I am enjoying my MM Cobbit Shire with some Lane Ready Rubbed. I love cobs in general and have a number of them but I believe this is my favorite. PS. I was a 1st Lt. supply officer in Korea with the US Army. Thanks for your service.

    It's really a lovely pipe.

    Estate Preben Holm Large Fancy

Preben Holm Large Fancy - AFTER I cleaned up my treasure as best I could. Not to compare my efforts to those of a professional pipe restorer but it turned out rather well. One thing I can say is that after running several bowls of tobacco through it is that it smokes very well. Once bored out...

    Estate Preben Holm Large Fancy

I bid on and won this pipe from eBay for $53.66 (cost plus shipping). Obviously, it needs some cleaning up but I think I did well. What do you think? will post another set of pictures after restoration.

No Deal Brexit US/UK free trade

I was curious about ordering from GQ Tobaccos and checked their web site. On the masthead is the warning printed in red: "Unfortunately we cannot ship tobacco outside of the UK. However Pipes and accessories are allowed." Ah well.

    Another new Yanik

" I'm the digital Typhoid Mary. When I drive down the street, computers on either side of the road crash." That's funny, Tom. Best laugh I've had in a long time. Thanks

Need help dating two estate pipes

They are for darn sure worth $5 each. Especially the GBD. That's a beautiful pipe. I need to start checking antique stores. Congratulations!

Do Estate Pipe Crimp the New Pipe Market?

I probably do have more pipes than I need, although I smoke them all. In my collection, I have some lovely Stanwells, Barlings, Comoys and a Tsuge. All but one of these better pipes were purchased as estate pipes. I bid a modest amount and see most of them go to a higher bidder. But oh the...
