    Butera Royal Vintage

If it's sticky, sweet, rich, and very hard to get lit then it's likely Dark Stoved. Dark Stoved and Golden Cake are favorites of mine, I have 3 tins of each left. I'll open one of each a year over the next three years as I'm searching for adequate facsimiles. Thus far I have found a few...

FVF - Light After Light After Light

I think thin slices is the key. I smoked a lot of FVF, Brown, and Golden 12-15 years ago without any issue; however, in my experience the flakes were cut much thinner by Gawtih than they have been recently. So now we cube cut, grind, etc. to compensate.

Ant Mystery; Any Entomologists In The House?

We use Terro when the ants really start swarming in late May, early June. I've noticed that when placing the Terro amongst a line of ants, they instantly swarm the stuff in an almost orgiastic frenzy.

    Toppings: Natural Or Fake?

I'm assuming most of the non-UK ones are a mixture of real and fake, but they taste like trash burning to me. I occasionally enjoy a UK-made aromatic (G&H, SG, JFG).

    Homemade Plug Recipes?

I was very happy with my first plug attempt a month ago. Used: 1.5 inch PVC compression coupling, two (2) 1.25-inch PVC flat plugs, one big-ass C Clamp, and a small wooden block for the bottom. If you put wax or butchers paper over the 1.25-inch flat plugs, they'll fit perfect inside the...

    An Important Lesson Learned

I'm still chasing those eureka moments, and I've been at it almost 25 years. I can somehow pack and smoke the perfect pipe on my 40-minute morning commute, even at tin moisture. But sit at home and it's still hit or miss - I think I fuss with it too much unless my mind is slightly...

Here you go, story of my life between marriages

The Virginia People And The Burley People

Straight Viginias or VA/Per 90% of the time. Burley dominated blends just taste dry and dusty to me, and leave a bitter aftertaste in my mouth. Similarly, I enjoy the taste of DFK, but it gives me nausea. I do occasionally enjoy a good oriental forward blend, but those are really hard to...

Give Me the Pros and Cons of Softy Bits

Too big and, yes, I can taste the rubber material. I can also taste most Vulcanite as well, so take my super-sensitive taste buds with a proverbial grain of salt.

    Minneapolis Pipe Shop Looted

Exactly. And defacing monuments like the Lincoln Memorial in protest for civil rights would only make sense to the clinically insane.

    Inhaling Aromatic Pipe Tobacco

Inhaling aromatic pipe tobacco smoke usually precludes gender reassignment surgery.

What Are You Listening To (May 2020)

Fookin' commie Green Party voters all!!! Listening to Anthrax's Among the Living, and so are all of my neighbors!!

    Which Tobaccos/Blends Have You Pressed?

I just opened and fired up my first press today, which I thoroughly enjoyed. So, my first attempt was a great success (to me). A few months ago I bought a pound of Sutliff 507s (Stoved Virginia) based on rave reviews, and the loss of a cherished blend (Dark Star). I did not enjoy the 507s...

Esoterica Kingsbridge Fans: Is This Normal?

My $0.02 guess would be that the white stuff is crystallization of the various sugar solutions and essential oils applied by Germain's, which I've read (and you can kind of smell) is an alcohol based solution. Thus, the alcohol evaporates and the various goodies are left behind on the leaves.

Esoterica Kingsbridge Fans: Is This Normal?

Yes, that's normal for Kingsbridge. I like to think of it as the powdered sugar my grandmother used to sprinkle on home made brownies. Also, my open Kingsbridge is much darker than that and the white powdery stuff is fairly ubiquitous.

    Niemeyer Hollandia

Never heard of it. I do recall a Niemeyer that used to get his ass kicked during recess in elementary school.

    Favorite BBQ Sauce?

Salt, pepper, and my charcoal Weber loaded with leftover oak and ash firewood from this past winter's fuel supply. If I need to add moisture to the meat during grilling, I'll usually apply an apple cider and cider vinegar mixture via brush. Or, I'll dunk the meat (chicken or steaks) into a...

    Whisky/Bourbon Glasses

It's very smooth yet full flavored, although a bit light on the rye pepper-like aftertaste.

    Whisky/Bourbon Glasses

PS - Thought I'd mention Tin Cup Straight Rye, my newest favorite.

    Whisky/Bourbon Glasses

I had the trucks when I was a young lad, so I received these as a part-jest Christmas gift several years ago. They're now my official whisky glasses.
