    MM Nosewarmer

I plan to pick up a few of the new Tom, Huck,Twain pipes myself. I had a couple of Ponies and loved them.

    Drank the Cob Koolaid

Cobguy, what is your recommendation for fixing the loose stems? I love cobs and recently bout a gent that wouldn't fit any of my MM stems. They were all very loose. Thanks, Bill

    MM Nosewarmer

I didn't like the long stem on this Patriot, so I replaced it with one of the Pony Express shorter stems. Smokes nice. Now to see how many bowls of BLB it will take to exorcise the ghost of two bowls of Ennerdale Flake. That's a might powerful ghost. Peace, Bill

    Liquid in pipe

I have both straight and bent pipes that sometimes gurgle a bit. I keep a pipe cleaner handy, and it remedies the problem straight away. I tend to use the cleaner even on pipes that don't gurgle, just to keep the moisture level down in the stem and shank.

    Favorite Pipe Smoking Musician

Chris Thile is absolutely one of my favorite musicians. Though, I wasn't aware he smoked a pipe. So yeah, he is at the top of my list for this question.

    Resting filters

I prefer balsa "filters." I let them sit in open air at least overnight. I use 4 or 5 times before tossing them. Paper filters are nasty in my opinion.

    All the Gandalfs and Hobbits

Here is a pic of my Peterson Churchwarden. It is nice quality and smokes great. It cost about $100 a few years ago.

Pipe Smoking Image--Old vs. Young, Eccentric, Nostalgic or Strange????

I picked up the pipe at 34 and have been puffing for about four years now. I was worried my wife might feel it was old man-ish, but as it turns out, she thinks it is really nice. She bought me my two nicest pipes and a pipe rack. When we travel, she enjoys visiting B&M shops with me. My...

    New to Balsa. Tips?

Hi 12pups. I use balsa inserts every day, both in my Savs and my filter cobs. I use them for four or five smokes before tossing them. Usually I just let them sit in the pipe until it cools and I clean it for the day. Then I just pull the balsa out and set it in my rack behind its pipe. I rotate...

The Gwaith and Hoggarth Lakeland Mystery

I had a one ounce bulk bag of Ennerdale Flake I had to move completely out of my large tobacco drawer. The smell from it overpowered everything else, even seeming to permeate some of my other bulk bags. With due respect to those who enjoy it, that stuff just isn't for me.

    Newbie needs suggestions.

You can get some nice buys in the under $50 links at Pipes and Cigars and Cup o Joes. One man's "arm and leg" are different from another's, and I don't know your budget, but I think a decent briar in your rotation is a must - just my opinion. I have a Savinelli Florence that I paid $35 or so...

    First cob pipe...keep filter?

+1 drhuff. I prefer the 6mm balsa filters in my filter cobs. They work great.

    Function Over Form

My Missouri Meerschaum Legend, with a 6mm Savinelli balsa filter, is fast becoming a top favorite in my rotation. In fact, I just ordered another.

    Exhaling through the nose....????

A full draw retrohale tends to be unpleasant for me, so I only retrohale the last little bit of smoke left after exhaling most out my mouth. Also, I lightly sip via "french inhaling." Both greatly enhance my smoking experience, and I never feel Vitamin N effects. The olfactory aspect of pipe...

    Burley / Perique?

I have really enjoyed reading everyone's replies. Thank you. As always with this fine bunch of folks, I learn, learn, learn. I'm going to start with the 4Noggins, and the C&D recommendations, while I eagerly await a possible blend from Russ. ...and I had to look up "nic hics." I've never...

    Burley / Perique?

I have developed a taste for burleys more so than Virginias and would like to become acquainted with perique blends. I ran a search on tobacco reviews.com for burley / perique blends with no Virginia or Latakia. The front runner seems to be Essence of Vermont from 4Noggins. It has only burley...
