How Long Did It Take To Find Your Favourite Blend?
For me this is like pursuing my "one food" or "one music." I will just never find it I don't think. I have a few favorites that I still get tired of and have to set aside for a while, only to crave them later. I enjoy variety, so if I ever find that one blend, I will be very surprised.- bphilli75

New smoker having trouble tasting...
I recommend perique blends also. I have a bit of trouble tasting a lot of tobaccos, but for some reason, I can taste perique quite well. Hearth and Home Anniversary Kake is a nice example. I find it very flavorful. Best of luck, Bill- bphilli75

The Charring Light
Char (false light) > Wait > Tamp > Light. This is the ritual I learned and have always followed. Sometimes, depending on the tobacco, how it swells, etc., I may have to lightly tamp again and light a third or fourth time to get lit well. My goal is a nice button of burning coal with an even top. -
When Did You Start Smoking A Pipe?
Great reading the replies so far. Another interesting thing that has popped up a few times is how folks tried a pipe, abandoned it a while then returned to it. I have done the same a couple of times, especially when the weather gets either too hot or cold or life just gets too busy. It's nice...- bphilli75
