    Peterson Meerschaum Help

Peterson used to make a meerschaum bulldog shape 150s and I’d like to know when they stopped making that style and shape in a meer. Late 50s or 60s? Possibly later even? I’ve got one and I just had a replacement stem fitted with a fishtail that makes the pipe more enjoyable for me to smoke...

    What Have I Got?

Found this little fellow in a junk shop for just a few dollars and it just spoke to me. Not sure if the stem is amber or something else. It’s quite an interesting find. Only marking is “FRENCH BRIAR” all caps, screw tenon and orific bit. Any clue what I have found here?

Any Good Tobacconists in Northern Oregon?

Thinking about a jaunt along the Oregon coast from Astoria down, and will have to pass through the Portland area anyway, so … any must stop kind of places or recommendations? Any interesting pipe shops or local B&M shops you think are special and worth a visit?

    It Looked Lonely

So I had to buy it and bring it home with me. Dropped into a little B&M pipe and tobacco shop since I was literally just a few steps away buying bagels and cream cheese for the weekend and there was one solitary and quite forlorn tin of CAO Cherrybomb just sitting there waiting for someone to...

    Birthday Goodness For Me

My lovely wife recently bought a lot of pipe book including authors Newcombe, Dunhill, Hacker and Stokkebye so I was super pleased with my birthday gifts, but she really outdid herself by presenting me today with some surprises from a recent road trip she made - Stonehenge, Brown Irish rope...

    Peter Stokkebye Signature

My lovely wife bought me a lot of pipe and tobacco related books for my birthday this year instead of her more usual pipe and tobacco gifts! I’ve been looking through the treasure trove of great books and I think one of them by Peter Stokkebye is inscribed and signed by him! No way for me to...

    Filing Stem to be Thinner

Any suggestions for files or sandpaper grits for thinning the bite zone in an acrylic stem? What grit to begin with and how to gradually thin it up a bit? I’m willing to experiment and if I jack it up it’s not a big deal. Inexpensive Ropp pipe that I actually like but the bite zone and...

Do You do Unspeakable Things to your Dunhill Pipes?

In the spirit of being thorough on this matter, do you use your Dunhill pipes (new, estate, begged/borrowed/stolen) for things like container gardening, hammering nails, scooping the litter box, smoking aromatics, clubbing baby seals, etc.? Post your responses here! ?

    Scott’s Burners - PSA

A while back I bought a small sandblasted billiard from a forum member for a very low price. (The fellow absolutely refused to include the nice white box it was displayed on, but I’ve forgiven him for that. Mostly. Okay I’m still despondent over it, but nevermind.) What a great little pipe...

    Dilemma

I’ve recently discovered a perplexing and admitted first world problem that has me at a loss. How am I supposed to relight my pipe while drinking my coffee and surfing the forum??? I can’t just set down the coffee and I’m reluctant to let go of my iPhone. This has me standing here with an...

    A Well Packaged Order!

Just got a lovely box with several pounds of bulk tobacco and a pound and a half of tinned tobacco from Smokingpipes.com. What a fantastic job they did with packaging the order. 8 ounces of Sutliff flakes in pristine unbroken condition, every tin individually wrapped in stout brown paper...

Does Bamboo Color As It Ages?

Will the bamboo shank color or darken either with age or smoking? Never owned one of these pipes and I’ve read that makers sometimes use flame to artificially darken the knuckles for cosmetic purposes, but wondered if they colored naturally from age or use.

    Izmir Aging?

Just bought 1/2 lb of C&D bulk Izmir as a blending component and condiment, but I’m wondering how it ages? I’ve got plenty of oriental blends that have aged nicely but that’s probably down to the VA base. Anyone have any experience with aged straight Izmir? I’m asking because I’m starting...

    OHM Turkish Red

So I’ve read several threads about this blend, MSO and others have said this brand seemed pretty good at a very low price point and Jiminks gave it a reasonable review on Tobaccoreviews.com. So I bought a bag today on a whim for an inexpensive no muss no fuss daily smoking blend. It’s exactly...

    A Funny Observation

I was reading the thread on pipe cleaning earlier and had a rather amusing observation: I’m not very kind to my Peterson and Rossi pipes, lol. In fact, they are kinda treated like rented mules. Generally I run a cleaner through the stem after each smoke and I don’t bash the rims against...

    Tinder Box Pipes

Any idea who carved pipes for this chain? Wondering if Wally Franks did some of them? Could be dozens of others too, just wondering if it was commonly known and I just never knew it?

    Freehand Stem Issue

Anybody else had an issue with moisture inside the stem on a Danish freehand pipe? I’ve got a Preben Holm that has the typical fancy “bubble stem” for lack of a better term - you know, with a spherical part, a waistline, a diamond shaped part, etc. I only have a couple of these pipes and none...

    Heavy Sigh

Another small tobacconist that I liked has turned bad. Stopped by the last time I was in that city and the old couple that I think bought it were there alone and clearly had no idea what they were doing. So the other day I tried again. Even worse. Asked for Swan Vesta matches but they didn’t...

    Merry Christmas And Happy Holidays

Hope you lot all have safe and happy holidays! You’re a great bunch of gentlemen (and ladies), an amusing, amazing lot of interesting people, and a few knuckleheads, lol, and I truly enjoy your posts, friendly banter, and bizarre sense of humor. It is a treat to enjoy your company and...
