    Codger Scooping G&H

I unwittingly codger scooped G&H Broken Flake #7 this morning while I was busy doing my usual routine and only realized after smoking for a considerable period that I hadn’t actually gone through my usual preparation and packing and that just gave me a good laugh. 😄 Normally I quite enjoy the...

    Pesse Canoe

I got a pleasant surprise whilst visiting a B&M in a different state this weekend! Found a couple tins of Pesse Canoe Oriental Flake which was a blend I had never heard of. Apparently a Turkish company. Nicely surprised and I am enjoying the oriental forward blend greatly. Izmir I think with...

Neighbor Gifted Me Her Grandfather’s Pipes!

My wonderful friend and neighbor gave me her Grandfather’s pipes that hadn’t seen the light of day for decades. She said her grandfather died before she was born (52 years old now) but she had pictures of him always with a pipe in hand. What a great gift! She knows I enjoy my pipes and wanted...

    Capstan & St Bruno Status?

Apologies if this has been discussed before but what is the current status of these blends? Safe, endangered, or toast? I get that “safe” is a relative term and any blend can be discontinued at any time, but given the recent Sutliff/MacBaren carnage and other issues touching on STG (for...

    Ah, That McClellands Smell

Opened an old (circa 2008?) tin of Royal Cajun Ebony and got that never forgotten ketchup smell that we all loved so much. I miss McClellands but I’m sure happy to still have the chance to enjoy some from time to time. In a few days I’ll be opening a vintage Christmas Cheer tin from my cellar...

    Secret Information re: 1792 Flake

Just discovered the ultimate tip for keeping SG 1792 lit - all you have to do is open the tin, forget about it for several months, and Presto! Lights easily and stays lit. Still tastes great but who knew?! 😄🤷🏼‍♂️

    Amber Orific Stems

Is there a certain date that orific stems stopped being made or at least commonly produced? I just acquired a couple older estates with such stems and it just got me curious. Any care and feeding tips for cleaning the stems? Especially the grotty bone tenons??

    What a Difference!

Bought a nos meerschaum pipe for relatively cheap knowing I would absolutely hate the stem. And I did. Horrible thing. Orange, cheap and nasty. Had Rich at Briarville make me new swirled blue acrylic stem right from the start. Just got it back and it blew my socks off! Smoking it now...

    The Peterson Pipe Book

For anyone with an interest - even a passing interest even - in Peterson pipes and the history of the company, this book is worth every penny. Not cheap at $65 but it’s a lovely high quality book and is just fascinating to read. I’m glad I got a copy and am enjoying it immensely.

    First System Pipe

Wanted one for a long time but finally decided to get one. Love it! I’ve had a long running love/hate relationship with Petes because on one hand they appealed to me but I’ve had a few fantastic pipes and a few with inexcusable quality issues (horrible stem work, poor drilling, etc.) Others...

    Peterson Deluxe System Question

I’ve been watching the other thread comparing Systems vs. Deluxe and I have a couple questions maybe someone could chime in with insights? The System Deluxe seems to come with the metal chimney piece, correct? Is that something that the regular System does not have? Could it be added or is...

    Current Latakia Production

Does anyone have any information on current production? I read awhile back that there basically wasn’t any but recently ran across a reference to a Turkish version. Just curious if anyone has any insight into this. Is Cypress still exporting or is there another alternative for Latakia? Not...

Is Ryan Alden a Forum Member?

I have a new old stock meer that I haven’t smoked but just hate the stem. I’ve seen such beautiful stems that he has made on various posts and I’d love to have him make me something fun! Any contact info that you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

    Some of My Favorite Things

Interesting facsimile reproduction of a pamphlet published in 1682. Quite nicely done on high quality paper and bound with string. 😃

    2-piece Delrin Tenon

Is there any trick to unscrewing the and putting them back in correctly to thoroughly clean the mortise on a meerschaum pipe? I don’t want to mess with it and end up having an mis-clocked stem or other issues. Never done it and don’t know if the pieces are glued or screwed in or what to be...

    Keeping It Smokey

I just lit up a pipe of F&T Flake and a big smokey wadge (technical term, lol) of tobacco raised up over the rim and started smoking like mad. Reaching for my tamper I realized it was laying across the room out of reach. Being lazy, I just decided to wait it out instead of tamping it down per...

    Meerschaum Query

An open question for Meer maintenance - what’s your opinion on cleaning the shank and stem post smoking? I understand the theory of meerschaum absorbing the oils and contributing to coloring but … leaving pipe juice in the mortise and stem is gross and tastes like shit. Is this a requirement...

Don’t You Hate It When …

You forget to label a jar of tobacco and years later find it lurking in your cellar, only to discover that it’s really quite tasty, aged well, and … you have absolutely no friggin’ idea what it is. 🤦‍♂️ Pretty sure it was put there around 2015 based on what it was surrounded by, and I have...

    Briar Stem

Just saw Genod is offering older style pipes with briar stems. Interesting idea, does anyone have any experience with this? Thoughts re: cleaning, chatter, flavor, comfort clenching, other?

    Savinelli Dry Pipes

Anyone have information on the “Dry” line of pipes? As near as I can tell it just accepts a 6mm balsa filter, but so do many others. What’s the deal with this design?
