For Those Wanting an H&H Classic Burley Kake Replacement...

...Check out Watch City's Waltham Broken Cake. Been smoking on a few ounces of this and it is VERY close to H&H Classic Burley Kake. I'm actually wondering if those were made by the same Sutliff tobaccos because Watch City is currently out of Waltham. They do, however, have plenty of Deluxe...

I Think I’m Finally Throwing in the Towel with Virginias

Straight Virginias have always tasted like cigarettes to me. No matter the brand/blend. I have a few tins in the cellar for guests who might want some in the future, but the closest I get to one for myself is Orlik.

    Germain's Rich Dark Flake

I traded some Stonehaven for some RDF because I wanted to compare them. They are quite close, but I believe I prefer Stonehaven. And I like 1792 more than both.

XXV Reserve: A Celebration of 25 Years of Smokingpipes

Both blends are now sold out. 20K gone in three days.

    I May Have Gone Overboard...

I have smoked a couple tins of it. I really like it. Has a sweet, fermented type of flavor with a hint of a fig-like topping (or maybe a natural result of the process, etc.). I've heard people say it's made in the old British style around the world wars. The latakia blend is my favorite in...

    I May Have Gone Overboard...

Yeah, I've seen it twice since 2010 and bought it both times. Penzance is the same; I have an open bag, now jarred up, that I smoke from now and then (not pictured) and there's the tin you see in the photo.

    I May Have Gone Overboard...

I guess it's not TOO bad. But when added to the rest of my cellar it seems like a lot to me.

    I May Have Gone Overboard...

I mean, I haven't had a BAD blend by Germain's yet. Some of these I absolutely do love--the Dorchester, Woodbridge, Pembroke, Special Latakia flake, etc. I don't see myself worrying about Tilbury, Scarborough, or the Royal Jersey stuff when it's gone, though.

    I May Have Gone Overboard...

I finally got around to straightening up and organizing my tobacco cellar (thanks to acquiring an antique chest of drawers) and see that I may have purchased more Esoterica/Germain stuff over the years than I thought. My local Tinder Box would get some in, I'd buy some, repeat...you get the...

James Gunn's DC Universe is off to an Amazing Start.

As a Batman fan, that's pretty much how I think of Superman.

James Gunn's DC Universe is off to an Amazing Start.

It's amazing to see so many people upset that Superman is actually NICE in this movie. What kind of real world villain do you have to be to hate a super hero doing good deeds?

XXV Reserve: A Celebration of 25 Years of Smokingpipes

10K tins of each variant. Should be around for a few days at least. I got one of each to cellar and an extra Dusk to pop and smoke as it looks the most interesting to me.

Aromatics are Not for the Pipe-Smoker

I like aromatics that still retain tobacco flavor. Lakelands, lightly flavored burley, and a select few C&D blends, really. I just don't care for the blends that are all black Cavendish laden with a heavy, goopy topping. At this point it gets rather boring just firing up the same old VaPers...

C&D Pegasus in the Savinelli Autograph.

Aromatics - I just need to accept it

I'm fine with aromatics--but I'm extremely picky about which ones I smoke. Setting aside Lakelands (love them), I have a handful that I do enjoy. Several recently met their demise--Maple Shadows and H&H Burley Kake being the big ones--but I dig the Gawith style of aromatics (like American...

Anybody Else Super Fascinated by Stanwell?

There seems to be a LOT of mystery behind many of the Stanwell shapes/origin. I’m not familiar with the shape 194, but that’s from the Eltang era. Probably one of his shapes if I were to hazard a guess.

Anybody Else Super Fascinated by Stanwell?

When my grandfather passed away, he left me a Dunhill Cumberland apple from the 80’s and a Stanwell shape 10 from the late 50’s. Love both pipes, but the Stanwell sent me down a lifelong rabbit hole. So much cool history, carvers associated with the brand, iconic shapes, etc. At this point I...

What Are You Listening To? - June, 2025

Been into stoner metal lately—The Sword, Witch, etc. And, of course, the album that started it all, Black Sabbath Vol 4.

What Cigar Are You Smoking? 2025

I’m really into lancero/panetella (think I spelled those correctly) cigars lately. Smoking a Drew Estate Deadwood in that shape right now. Pretty nice, really.

    I couldn't help myself

I kinda did the same thing with Match Victorian. Already have plenty, but when additional bags popped up a month ago or so, I couldn't pass up getting another pound.
