As I already said once, my Rathbone is slightly larger than my Pub. So, yeah, they can be bigger. There is variance. If you look at the examples I posted from SP you can see there’s very little difference between the three pipes I listed. House pipes are larger, but not by much. 🤷♂️
Substantially is a bit much. Just grabbed a random three off SP: Rathbone has depth of 1.97 and width of 0.80, Pub has a depth of 1.99 and width of 0.83, and House has depth of 2.13 and width of 0.83. Quite comparable bowls. My Rathbone has a bigger bowl than my Pub. Even the difference...
I gravitate to larger bowls, Petes included. My favorites are the B42 for a system pipe, the Pub pipe (though it can be a bugger to clean well), and the Sherlock Holmes Rathbone (which often has a bigger chamber than House and Pub pipes). The Mycroft can also get big, but the Rathbone almost...
Jeremy has said that he modeled From Beyond from an old tin of Dunhill Nightcap he had in the 90's (correct me if that's wrong). I'd be curious how anyone who smoked that era of Nightcap feels about this blend. Does it seem to be in the same ballpark? Who was making Nightcap in this period...
I don't know about straight system pipes, but I'd love for one of these releases to include some of the old school huge Dublins, like the old A4 or a B16/47/57. I definitely get a bit burnt out on the same old shapes.
For clarification, the shapes available are: 301, 302, 303, 304, 305, 306, 307, 312, 313, 314, 317, B42 (pictured above), and XL315. They did not do a 309. Also, they are all sandblast.
If you haven't seen these yet, they went with the system shapes this time, dressed all black with a black acrylic army mount. Pretty nice looking pipe! Here's the one I purchased:
They are up for sale on SP and a couple other sites.
Ironically, the Carolina Red/Perique release says "small batch" right on the tin despite them producing 20K of them. I'd wager it's the biggest batch of anything they made this year.
Ah, man, that sucks. The copper this time around is definitely a lighter color than previous years. Mine looks fine, but I can see it being a problem. This year's Xmas pipes are just a mixed bag of sorry it seems.
So, as previously posted here, I wanted a 120 for this year. I jumped on quick when they dropped and picked one of the better looking pipes in this shape (I posted pics of a couple stinkers). Just got it and it looks better in person. Rust colored stain, copper is lovely. The rustication seems...
I wonder, too, if these were a way to recycle the stuff that didn’t make snuff for a cobble. Peterson is aware we love the copper bands, so it seems an easy way to offload them.
This is what I mean about the rustication/finish looking rough. Look at these two 120's from SmokingPipes. Besides the big black spots on them, the finish itself looks like it has little pits (bubbles?) all over it. There are some that are much better, but you definitely want to get this one...
