    Whoa, that's next level. I know what it is to suffer the consequences of spinal injury, but there are long periods of stability. You have a straight line degenerative condition, man that's a tough battle. You know where it's heading; fear nothing, life is just a phase we go through.

    The microbiologists have grown things in my blood cultures; three types of microbe, none resistant, so I'm down to one type of antibiotic which hits all of them. MRI scan set for Monday, and potential discharge home with a PIC line and exotic jewellery in a week or so.

    There's the rub - they don't know what or where. The MRI scanner was broken, now allegedly fixed so when I get a scan, they'll have a much better idea and we can have a fast track plan. Owing to my history, they'll concentrate on pelvic region.

    This afternoon, doctors round, had an extensive Q&A from the chap. At the end he said, only one more but unconnected question and a smile came to his face - "I hear you smoke a pipe?". Very much approved.

    Worst thing is, this is history repeating, April 2023 all over again. For the sake of a timely blood test, really, and my having no levers to pull. The upside now is, there are main players who look at my old notes and escalate immediately.

    Yes, that's the way it's structured now. Doesn't work, of course, they hide themselves away, especially since covid. Their phone intro, brutally summarised, says "if you're sick, call an ambulance or dial 111" - the 111 wheeze is a pool of doctors who seem to instruct the MDs. Broken.

    Long term pressure ulcer, abcess, blood poisoning... the medics should have been right on it ages ago, when the serious people turned up, they wanted a court of inquiry. How could this happen? I'll take it easy when I'm through with this, promise. For a while.

    I had the stop smoking princess round this morning, but I extolled the many virtues and flavours of pipe tobacco blends to her. In the end, she sneakily pulled out a gadget to measure the CO in my breath. I scored 1 - nonsmokers can trigger 6 or so. Victory was mine!

    Some time back I mentioned my palate being a bit off and maybe I needed a break. Well, I persisted and it kind of improved then began to go off again. The last three weeks, not nice but appetite in general also gone. I've been running fevers at night, but I have twice-weekly checkups, all good...

    Heck, the Rattrays only dropped a couple of weeks ago and took time to reach the bigger online shops - after MSS got stocked, I went for 250g. I was waiting for Smoke-King to get theirs and they did, so I was idly contemplating another 250g from them. Went back to put my money down yesterday...

    40g pouches only nowadays. It does have a mild flavoring, nothing like as distinctive as it used to be 40+ years ago - I don't enjoy it straight, but, great mixer.
