    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

My self-denial has lasted 12 days, but I've crumbled. Couldn't resist no moah.

Lunar Eclipse, Europe, Sunday 7th September

As the sun sets tomorrow evening in Western Europe and the UK, the Moon will rise on a heading of 100° and it will be in total eclipse. Providing the weather plays nice, it should be a spectacular red Moon-rise and witches, bats etc. will rejoice.

The Flavors of Perique: Fruity vs. Spicy -- FIGHT!

More spice with age, in my experience. I like the figgy flavours and the hot spice, so there's an optimal age of maybe 2-3 years for something like SG Cabbies.

    Tongue burn question

Give it time, little sips, slow to a crawl, and you'll give your tongue a chance to get callused and leathery. When you get to that point, you'll always have way to strike your matches. Bonus!

    English Nickel Plate?

Pipes like Peterson's Draculas are all nickel bands, fairly common I think?

    Dottle

The trick is to have a "Persian slipper", a receptacle in which to store and dry any old tat, like the rat end of a bowl, old chew, nose pickings after snuff aka brown bogie etc. When sufficient are mixed together, you'll have a very good smoke indeed.

Children, family, friends. Then, the inheritance will be all mine!

    DAMN!!! MOLDY G & H DARK PLUG

I had something similar with my jar of Germain's Special Latakia Flake. But I noticed a tiny fruit-fly come out with it and thought it might be the reason, so I excised the fluffy growth and re-jarred it, sans fly. However, checking again, one other occurrence, so it might be mould. I've...

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

Refill from bulk - tins have ceased, apparently, so I'd better take care of this one.

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

Mixed. See my post #1903 - about half was intact flakes, the rest broken. I bought another 25g to top the tin up, mostly broken. It's owing to being shipped across the ocean in bulk and tinned over this side, I imagine.

A father and son thing, one of the greatest lessons

Never too late for schooling! Which VaPer was it?

    Cheese

Yes, haven't had any for a long time but I've had that one - onion and chive embedded. Their malt whiskey is very fine too.

    Ding Dong Murder

A negligent mother and her daughter used to come out of school; she would flop on the bench on the street out front of mine, yacking to her friend. Meanwhile, the little girl would be in the nearby phone box dialling the emergency services etc. The kid started into the habit of doing the...

From the cellar. Tin date September 2023. Opened for the end of summer.

What's the % of Dark Fired in Old Gowrie?

Not sure BM has the right ratio for OG - although, worst case, you'll end up with a HotW. You're down the right track, though.

    Cheese

If you lived in the UK, it's about £12 for a half pound. 250g here was £12.70, which is actually pretty reasonable at today's prices. It would probably have to be smuggled into the USA.

    Cheese

My thanks to @OzPiper for the heads up, finally got round to snagging myself a slab of Montgomery. Now this is a cheddar. Wow.

    Breaking Fast

Man, the Clintons have been busier that I thought.

    Breaking Fast

"Carjack" starring Terry Saveloy, he'd shout "Sapirsteeeen!" and stick a lolly in his gob. Should have smoked a pipe, chilled out a bit. Returning to a smoke after a long break can be 100% joy; in my experience, it was a case of rehab each time and searching for the old flavours. Depends on the...
