Surviving On Five Brothers Pipe Tobacco!

I may be misunderstanding your reply. Or maybe I was unclear. 5 bros has no dark fired in it.

Surviving On Five Brothers Pipe Tobacco!

Dark Birds Eye is no longer dark Birds Eye. But both the real thing and its replacement are quite different from 5 bros. They taste strongly of a certain type of hardwood smoke and sometimes have a whiff of that Lakeland flavor. Five bros is rougher, less complex, with a top note like ersatz cocoa

What Are You Listening To - March, 2025

I love that album. I often listen to his version of “love theme from Spartacus “

    Top Burley Blends

For me 5 Bros has a very noticeable topping. But it is light compared to the flavorings added to ready rubbed match

Traveling With Pipes/Tobacco. Has it changed for you?

I agree with most of your points. I'd just like to add, when I am traveling, smoking a pipe gets me interacting more with the people of a place. It basically means I'm standing around outside the hotel, or out on the sidewalk or in plaza, or wherever. And when I do that I get to talking with...

Traveling With Pipes/Tobacco. Has it changed for you?

I still take with me two or three knockabout pipes, cob or briar. And a ziplock bag filled with my usual air cured blend. A bic. Pipe cleaners. A Czech tool. All which is thrown in an old Tupperware container . So not much has changed for me

What's your favorite Cigar Leaf Blend?

The only commercial cigar leaf blend I’ve tried that really liked was Billy Budd. The cigar is used with Latakia to strike a really interesting chord. I do sometimes blend Paraguay ligero leaf with other air cured tobaccos. I like it for a change of pace

    PAD Is Kicking In

I’ve had only good experiences with old German clays. I smoke them til they’re saturated with tar, put them in hot coals. They come out clean white, then I smoke them again. I also put a bit of wax on the stem to prevent lips from sticking. I would smoke clays more often but I’m a clencher and...

    Can Cake Fix Moisture Problems?

I have found some wet smoking pipes will improve with use, but I do not think it’s the cake that does it. I’ve had cake at varying thickness in these pipes and it made little difference, but time and smoking did. I remember reading a smoking pipes blog article about how the briar improves with...

    What are You Reading Now?

I liked many of the earlier Bosch novels, the later ones not quite so much. I’ll have to check it out

I Ordered 20oz Of Tobacco From The US It Cost Me $393.21

I know nothing about Canada taxes, but I smoke whole leaf exclusively now and vastly prefer it to all other pipe tobaccos I have tried.

    Two New Maple Billiards

I like’em! I’m always interested in alternative woods too. Looking forward to seeing your website

    Tongue Bite Smoking a Clay

I suspect that while you were struggling to get it and keep it lit you were drawing harder, and that contributed to tongue burn. And that pipe has a pretty small bowl, which can also make it easier to burn your tongue a bit while lighting up. At least that’s my experience. Clays tend to have...
