    Moisture On Outside Bowl Bottom

I just fired up a Brebbia Linea A with the same situation. I now think it’s the carnuba wax I applied after my last full cleaning ritual a couple weeks ago. I appreciate all the comments and advice.

    Moisture On Outside Bowl Bottom

Thanks for the advice, but after 50 years I know how to light a pipe. ?

    Moisture On Outside Bowl Bottom

Long time (50+ year) pipe smoker here. Recently I have detected a droplet of moisture on the outside bottom of my pipes. It is a bit sticky. There is no heat at the point of the droplet, and often occurs when I first light my pipe. I’m confused and curious what may cause it. I’ve seen it...

Pipe Recommendation ($500-$700 range) Special Occasion

I must say this is a wonderful gesture on your part, but pipes are so personal I could not offer any recommendations because of that. One man’s punch is another man’s poison. I’ve been with my wife over 40 years and she wouldn’t know enough to buy me a pipe.

    Severe Oxidation- Live With It?

Vulcanite stem oxidization is the reason I have acquired only pipes with lucite or newer ebonite stems ( with the exception of two newer Dunhill Ruby Barks) over the past 30 years.

Small Bowl vs Big Bowl Break In

I suspect I’ve been smoking a pipe longer (50 years) than most of you youngsters. I’ve used the old honey treatment and gradual bowl filling (1/2, then 3/4, then full) many years. Never had a problem, even with my latest Rinaldo with bowl coating. That said, you do what works for you; and...

Have You Ever had a Pipe “Burn Through”?

In 50 years of pipe smoking, through hundreds of pipes, the only ” burn through” I’ve experienced was an old Charatan I got from the late great Barry Levin in the late 80s. He made rapid financial restorations.

Aromatics Help: Not Just Something that Smells Nice

I recognize there will be a lot of disagreement with my recommendation, but after almost 50 years of pipe smoking, including multitudinous crap aromatic blends, I do not hesitate to suggest Autumn Evening. And I’m a dedicated Va, VaPer, and English fan.

Whose Pipes do You Have the Most of?

    Nine Caminetto Moustache grades.

Is a Burnt Wall Something to Worry about?

I’ve owned about a dozen Autographs over the years and never had a problem. I still consider them among the finest pipes I’ve owned.

    Covid, @Grangerous, & Vitamin N

I am into that sort of thing; so my prayers for you and yours.

    The Castello Thread

I acquired my first Castello at the PCI show in Cherry Hill NJ in 1989. A Sea Rock bent Dublin. Loved it and bought about seven more through the years, eventually traded them all, and then got an Old Antiquari and flame grain large bent dublin at the Columbus show in 2018. Won’t trade them now...

Anybody Smoke a Pipe while Playing Golf?

I’ve been playing golf 55 years, smoking a pipe 50 years, and never smoke my pipe on the course. The pipe offers too many distractions and delays plus there’s the big risk of losing or breaking a pipe. I’ll stick with beer and an occasional cigars during the round.

    Interesting Article About Fred Hanna

It is a fine article and I love his book. On another topic, and I ask since you’re a member of the CPCC, I assume there is no Chicago show this year. I have seen no notice of the event.

    A Pipe and a Drink (?)

I’ll reprise my standard response to these question: I love my pipe and I love my beer; just not together. I drink seltzer when I smoke my pipe.

Good Straight Out Of The Box

None. I never fill up a new pipe out of the box and smoke it like my regular pipes. I always use the honey treatment to break in a new pipe, bowl coating or bare, and begin the break-in process with a quarter bowl, half bowl, three quarters bowl, and then full bowl after three days. It has...

Can’t Enjoy My Pipe Without Alcohol

I love my pipe and I love my beer. Just not together.
