    Tobacco at Night???

I live right next to a river as well, and it does get pretty stodgy here, most noticeably after the sun sets. Dry tobacco can act as a moisture sponge when exposed to a humid environment, but an aromatic that already contains a lot of excess moisture will result in a very wet, steamy smoke. I...

    What the Hell is This?!

No idea what the thing in the bottom of the bowl is, but it's not a weed pipe like some have suggested. Honestly, I wouldn't bother with it when a real pipe can be had for only a few bucks.

    Tobacco at Night???

Despite some of the smartass responses on here, climate CAN affect your smoke. Changes in humidity and wind can definitely have an impact. More humidity makes for a wetter smoke and more relights in my experience, and too much wind can make the tobacco burn hotter and faster.

    Question about Prince Albert

IMHO, much better than Half & Half. Prince Albert is a mildly aromatic burley-based blend, nutty and slightly sweet with a hint of cocoa flavor. Carter Hall is also good, and slightly milder in taste, but very similar - it's my #1 most smoked blend. They're both simple, straightforward blends...

    Blending Blends

Blending tobacco can be tough to get right. I've created some unsmokable abominations in my attempts. I now stick to amending existing blends to tweak them to my preference. To my taste, latakia (especially in higher quantities) imparts a fragrant, incense-like smoke to a blend. I've never...

***What Are You Smoking, November 2023?***

Amphora Virginia in an El Morjane Algerian briar, a paneled billiard.

Jim's a Comic Book Convention Guest, Nov. 12, in N.C.

Having attended a three day convention before, I can confirm that a great many of the attendees neglect to shower. The staff were handing out travel size deodorant sticks along with the badges. They didn't seem to be used much.

    Recent TAD Pick-Ups

Picked up 11 pouches of Amphora Virginia from a B&M nearby. Clearance priced at $2.99 per pouch. Heck of a deal.

    That pipe looks awesome.

    Anyone Here Familiar with DOSBOX?

Hmm, looks like it's the Windows version of the game, then. If it doesn't run natively in XP, the solution would be tracking down either the DOS game or an emulator for an older version of Windows. I'd be really careful about downloading anything directly onto an XP machine, as it will be...

    How I Make Oatmeal

I like to add raisins, walnuts, and cinnamon to mine. I throw in some ground flaxseed and chia seed if I want to feel extra super duper healthy.

How Do You Feel About Stems In Your Tobacco?

I only bother picking out large, woody pieces. Small pieces of vein or stem are just a fact of life when you smoke a leaf.

Rubbed Newminster No. 400 in a Mr. Brog No. 20 Apple. I call this combo the "No. 420".

    Preferred Whiskey/Whisky Proof?

Same. I used to try to analyze and pick apart all of the nuanced flavors in everything and attempt to "understand" whiskey (and tobacco) that I didn't really like. I'm pretty much over that now. I just want to enjoy something for what it is without putting too much thought and labor into acts of...

    Preferred Whiskey/Whisky Proof?

Bourbon is hard to screw up because the standards of production are fairly stringent. Even the cheapest bourbons like Old Crow tend to be pretty inoffensive. I can't say the same for some of the bottom shelf Scotch whisky I've had the displeasure of imbibing. When I drank more heavily, it was...

    Preferred Whiskey/Whisky Proof?

Evan Williams is like the Carter Hall of whiskey. Cheap and unpretentious, but just plain good.

    Preferred Whiskey/Whisky Proof?

I prefer bourbon and rye 50-60%+ and Scotch a little weaker, 45-50%. I love the concentrated, intense flavor of a high proof bourbon.

What types of blends are best for relights.

I don't notice much of a change of flavor when relighting a pipe compared to the dramatic change that occurs when relighting a cigar. Cigars can get bitter, sour, and nasty after going out, but I frequently let my pipes go out and come back to them later that day (or sometimes even the next day)...

    Blending Blends

I like to experiment with adding latakia to existing blends to give them that whisper of extra smokyness that I crave. A bit of an English blend or straight blending latakia added to a codger blend or an aromatic can really kick it up a notch. I've found that the results of these experiments...

Can I Use Open Tins for Storage or Move to Jars?

When I open a tin and have a first smoke out of it, I assess the humidity of the contents and determine if I'd like to keep it as-is or let it dry some. If it's good to go, it gets dumped straight into a canning jar. Otherwise, I let it sit in the tin to gradually lose some of the moisture...
