Are You a Sloppy Pipe Smoker or a Meticulous Pipe Smoker?

Great thread! I have a shelf for tobaccos, a small plastic tub where the pipes get thrown into. I've sort of claimed one of the kitchen counters as my pipe station where I keep my stuff and mix up/cut up my whole leaf blends. Pipe cleaner after every smoke and i leave the pipe outside on the...

    Freehand Stem Issue

Yes they are top notch pipes, but definitely not everyone's bag. I wouldn't normally buy them but i bought a few pipes from a guy and he threw in a couple beat up freehands for less than 10$ each, so i said why the hell not. Glad i did!

1950s Short Film Re: Wilke Pipe Shop--Blending & Pipemaking

That looked like a hefty dose of perique in that vaper she was mixing up :0

    Freehand Stem Issue

I have a preben holm Harcourt D grade (highest grade I think) freehand. It was drilled very well, but still gathered moisture at the bottom of the bowl where it gets smaller. Nothing as bad as yours, but i drilled it out a bit(i think to 4mm) and flared out the tenon a little and it smokes much...

***What Are You Smoking, February 2021?***

Whole leaf blend. American english flake. 40% kentucky 20% latakia 10% basma 10% prelip 15% stoved red virginia 5% black stoved bright virginia This one's a keeper. Nice balance, with the strong oriental spice matching the latakia. The Kentucky forming a solid base for everything. A touch of...

    Your Go to Morning Blend

Lately it's been my main whole leaf blend with kentucky, stoved and black stoved red and bright virginias, orientals(basma and prelip) and some perique.

    DIY: Adding Floral Essences?

There was also some wintergreen I believe.

***What Are You Smoking, February 2021?***

Whole leaf blend. Black kentucky twist. 60% kentucky 15% red virginia 15% bright virginia 10% perique Sprayed with black spiced rum and vanilla. Twisted and stoved until black( about 12 hours). Strong but smokes cool. Any harsh edges are tamed by the stoving. A little sweet, dark and...

    DIY: Adding Floral Essences?

Yes essential oils are the way to go. Making your own essences would be too time consuming/laborious and the cost of raw plant you would need would be too high vs already made oils. Just mix the oils in alcohol and spray. And start with very very small amounts. Like 1-3 drops(depending on the...

    Peterson 3’P’s vs. Salty Dogs

Well since these are both plugs, you might be missing some of the nuances if they arent dried out enough.

Anybody Smoke Whole Leaf WITHOUT Straight-No Casings?

Absolutely! I only smoke my own whole leaf blends from wholeleaftobacco.com. I had a good grow last year too, but that's in the kiln right now aging. What are you planning to buy? You don't need to case or process latakia, orientals, perique and kentucky. I highly suggest to stove virginia...

Tamping And The Bottom Of The Bowl?

I don't stir it up at all. Just keep tamping and stop when the flavour changes for the worse. Usually about 1/8 of the bowl is left and it's pretty moist. No point in burning my tongue over a couple puffs.

    Presbyterian Mixture - ?

It's amazing, the orientals in it are very nice. It is definitely on the mild side though. Very much worth a try if you're curious.

What Is Your Favorite Blend Type?

I only do whole leaf blends but lately it's been kentucky based with virginia(stoved or black stoved) and orientals. Seasoned sometimes with a little perique or latakia. Not sure where that fits in, no option for other!!??? I guess most people consider kentucky to be burley but I don't smoke...

Whole leaf blend. American english. Crumble cake. 40% kentucky 25% latakia 25% prelip 10% black stoved bright virginia Topped with tonka bean soaked in bourbon prior to pressing. A tasty blend, "off-dry", with lots of oriental woodsy, musty fragrance, but a little sweet creamyness from the...

Is There a Tobacco you Seem to Like More Every Time you Smoke It?

I go through phases of preferring different amounts of all kinds of leaf in blends(I only smoke my own whole leaf blends) kentucky is the backbone of most of them as I like the strength and flavour but been really appreciating lightly stoved red virginia more and more. Bright virginias to a...

Whole leaf blend. Medium english with a kick. 20% latakia 20% kentucky 20% perique 10% izmir 20% stoved red virginia 10% black stoved bright virginia I like my English with a little less latakia, a touch of sweetness, decent strength and a good dollop of spice. Yum! Crumble cake in a wide...
