    Sherlock Holmes Collection

I'm a big fan of Sherlock and have read most of the books and short stories. Don't have any collectibles to speak of, but an old clay pipe I smoke sometimes with my "Sherlock's shag" blend. Half black stoved red virginia and half black stoved Kentucky. I guess similar to the dark bird's eye...

Can Anyone Tell the Quality of this Pipe?

Depends on the size of the pipe too. From the pics that looks pretty big and it will take longer to colour. Looks like it's doing quite fine to me

Flea Market Find - Leonard Payne(Canada)

Theres one on eBay now VINTAGE CUSTOM COLLECTIBLE LEONARD PAYNE BULLDOG TOBACCO SMOKING PIPE CANADA | eBay - https://www.ebay.com/itm/193617610324 , I'll see what it goes for and if it's worth it for me to sell. Might bring it to the pipe club also, I'm sure someone there would like it.

Flea Market Find - Leonard Payne(Canada)

And the results? Interesting...and pretty good, nice draw, definitely cool smoke, even with a steady cadence. Gives a more body to my black stoved va/per at the cost of just a little sweetness. The mechanics are a little strange as you can imagine, still works for clenching on the side but...

Flea Market Find - Leonard Payne(Canada)

My flea market find yesterday. A pipe made in canada Leonard Payne. Not much information online except a small pipedia article and reborn pipes did a refurbish article too. Leonard moved to Canada and set up shop in the 60's, at some point moving into Surrey BC, where I currently live and found...

    Again, How Many Pipes Recommended?

As many as you need. I'd say 2-3 for each style of blend you want to dedicate. I also refurbish and resell pipes to help support my PAD and make a little profit(tobacco money), so I might have more than I smoke at any given time. About 25 right now, maybe 10 I smoke on the regular. I'm in...

    The Future of Tobacco?

Well if that's actually the case in the US, it might be possible for some (really small) small scale tobacco growers to do that. Or just have a portion of their product be organic. In Canada here it's pretty strict and even if you want to tell consumers it's grown using organic methods(not even...

    The Future of Tobacco?

Myself being a young and new(third year) small scale mixed veggie farmer, I would hope it's going to have a similar trend as seen in the food and produce industry. With more of a focus on local and organic. I am new to farming but have seen these trends change with more interest for specialty...

Question: Bowl Size (Cut vs. Blend Type)

I prefer complex blends in a big wide pipe, and tend not to choose dense flakes for a big pipe, because I don't need a 1+ hour smoke. I usually like a faster burning ribbon cut. Also a flake will warm up the pipe more. So if it's a big bowl, better to have thick walls with a flake style. It's...

    Bright Virginia with Tongue Bite

Dry it out ! If I have bite problems with a Virginia tobacco it's usually because it's too moist.

    Breakthrough Blends

Haha true that. Although so did latakia, and I guess Kentucky to a certain extent too....but perique is something magical, which adds another dimension to blends. Might try an make some with my homegrown this year. I know it won't compare to the St James perique I have, but it will be...

More Flavor in a Cob Than My New Briar. Breaking In = More Flavor?

I've been really discovering the "same blend same pipe" thing and it really does make a difference. After about 10 bowls or so(in an already broken in pipe mind you) things really do start to sing.

    Breakthrough Blends

Crumble cakes and plugs are easy. Just get a couple c clamps and 2x4s for a simple press. I've even used a cement block with decent results. Or one side of a heavy sitting bench resting on some boards lol. Anything works, get creative! The noodle press is easy though and worth the small price...

    Breakthrough Blends

Anyone here want to share some of their breakthrough Blends? Ones that really hit the nail on the head? I've been tinkering with dozens of blends and variations with different percentages and recently there have been a couple that stand out. - Black stoved Va/per: A plug of black stoved red...

    Bent Pipe Airway Question

I have a couple pipes with the drilled out spot to collect moisture. They aren't Peterson's. One is an Everest and the other a no name Italian one. I took the stinger out of the Everest and it smokes great. If I blow back through the pipe every so often the moisture just gets pushed back in that...

    Over Heating Pipe

Of the estate pipes I've bought, the cracked ones were almost always ones with tons of cake in them. I think when a cake is kept uneven it disperses heat, expands and shrinks at different rates which can stress the wood more and lead to cracking. Possibly the thicker walls enhanced with cake...

    Looking for 19th Century Pipe

https://www.ebay.com/itm/193600987301 This seller has just listed a bunch of them, so check their other listings. They always have pipes for a good price and cheap shipping. Most of them are not flawless but still smokable.

***What Are You Smoking, July 2020?***

Yes get whole leaf and do the stoving, casing and pressing. I just got a stainless steel noodle press off Amazon for cheap. It works great and is easy. Ive used the pvc pipe and c clamps before and even just a couple 2x4s and c clamps will work for some homemade plugs.

***What Are You Smoking, July 2020?***

Another one of my newer blends, a va/ky/lat consisting of Kentucky 45%(that's been cased with maple syrup and bourbon and then heavily stoved into a sort of Cavendish), black stoved red virginia 45% and 10% Latakia, just enough lat to add some richness but not enough to drown out the other...

***What Are You Smoking, July 2020?***

One of my newest blends. Black stoved Virginia and 40% perique flake. Sprayed with a little tonka bean soaked in bourbon before pressing. I am really digging it. Surprisingly the perique intensity is mostly in the first quarter of the bowl, and then it mellows out and the creamy, fruity tangy...
