Inhaling Burley-Based Blends-Which Ones do You Recommend?

Capitalized important words in title. Rule 9 Hi All, I love Rattray's Macbeth tobacco, it's a blend that doesn't seem to have much in the terms of flavoring (which I like). It says it is a mix of burley and Virginia, but my guess is it must be light on the Virginia as it packs a punch (at...

Solani Aged Burley Anything Else Like It?

Hello Everyone, I've really taken a liking to Solani Aged Burley Flake lately. I had a tin and didn't think much of it until I smoked it for the first bowl of the day. I got quite a nicotine hit off it and started to enjoy the basic yet tasty "taste" of pure aged burley. Are there any other...

    Rattray Tobacco Suggestions From Veterans

Man, thanks everyone! I will have to take these suggestions and try them out! I know for sure I will do Black Malory and Marlin Flake, will have to give Stirling, Old Gowrie, and Red Rap a go. And to be honest probably most of the other recs on here lol. I've been going through a more than usual...

    Rattray Tobacco Suggestions From Veterans

I got a local dealer here who is shipping (not open for business) that's telling me they have most of the Rattray line in stock. I have fond memories to this day of the one tin of Marlin Flake I smoked years ago. Can anyone recommend any other great blends I should try out? They are out of Black...

Reaming A Pipe Down To Wood

Yes I also agree, I have been wiping out the bowl on my newer pipes and it has not only increased the flavor of the smoke but also made it unnecessary to ream. I have seen cake build up before and am noticing that it isn't happening with my current pipes. Thanks!

Reaming A Pipe Down To Wood

Hello Everyone, I have an old Peterson pipe inherited from my father, not worth much but of sentimental value. I went and reamed it out and did a salt cleaning of it with alcohol to get rid of the old caked up residue and flavor. The reamer I have has a faulty spring, and thus I wasn't able to...

    Drucquer & Sons Question

    Drucquer & Sons Question

Hello Everyone, I have been enjoying Drucquer & Sons lately. I have a pipe dedicated to Blairgowrie and one for Trafalgar. I'm leaning towards repurposing one of my other Virginia blend pipes for another one of Druquer's English Blends. Before doing that, I'm wondering which of the blends they...

    Hi Everyone

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

    24 or 48 Hours Rest?

That’s excellent advice. I just damaged a pipe with a non glossy exterior due to alcohol spilling out of the mortise and over the bottom of the bowl. It was my own fault for belong clumsy and also using the very thin bristle cleaners instead of the extra thick BJ long or Big Ben brand. I was...

    24 or 48 Hours Rest?

Wow thanks everyone! I really appreciate the detailed feedback. I heard a few people mention the warm water rinse I don’t think that was in vogue when I was smoking. Do you just flush it out with water under the sink? And I’m assuming let it rest for about 24 hours to dry out? Thanks!

    24 or 48 Hours Rest?

Thanks! That sounds like a good idea and is something I never did. Do you just wipe it out with a paper towel or do you wet it down with water or alcohol?

    24 or 48 Hours Rest?

Yes something like that happened with my Peterson. The cake was building poorly just like you described. It must have been the type of tobacco I was using! Thanks!

    24 or 48 Hours Rest?

Oh sadly no I gave those pipes away when I quit smoking. I bet I could have cleaned it though!

    Hi Everyone

Back into smoking pipes after about a 10 year break. Quit smoking altogether and then last year caught a whiff of pipe tobacco and couldn’t get it out of my head. So glad I did, I have been missing out! Great site you all have here, I’ve been reading a bit on here and seems like there are some...

    24 or 48 Hours Rest?

EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9) - Bob Hello Everyone, New to this forum and getting back into pipe smoking after about a 10 year hiatus. I’m wondering about opinions on resting your pipes. I’ve read that some rest a pipe for 24 hours, others recommend 48, and still others even...
