***What Are You Smoking, July 2021?***

Whole leaf blend. In search of some cool smoking blends lately. Base of Kentucky with equal portions of latakia and stoved red Virginia. Dark and rich. A bit much for the morning but I was eager to try it out. Smokes slow and cool for sure. 40% Kentucky 30% latakia 30% stoved red virginia...

Can You Help ID Some Free-Hands?

Third one(starting from the left) looks like a Bjarne. I have a similar one.

Mix By Weight Or By Volume?

For something like you are making just eyeball by volume. It would be hard to mess up a straight Virginia like that one. I find a stoved Virginia that is still in higher case can have quite a bit more weight than a light and fluffy unstoved version and it will take up less volume in the blend...

***What Are You Smoking, July 2021?***

Whole leaf blend. Similar to haunted bookshop but with a little less burley, more perique and lightly stoved red Virginia. I only had a sample of haunted bookshop, but I thought it was a little dull and too centered around the burley. The stoving of the red Virginia gives it a bit more...

    Falcon Fans?

I'm a fan. Had a few from a flea market, sold them and ended up getting myself another cause I missed them. Don't need more than one stem and maybe another bowl for different blends if you need. I like them for hearty Kentucky/ burley blends that are a little on the sweet side. I find they under...

    Cobs for Tasting

Many people including myself use clay pipes for that purpose. Pure taste and no ghosting means you can use the same pipe for many trials. I just wash mine with hot water for deep cleaning, which kind of discolors it in a strange way but that isn't really a problem for me. I wouldn't bother with...

Does Anybody Dry the Whole Tin at Once?

I dry out an ounce at a time usually for a given blend. And I usually have a few blends going at a time. I don't think it matters much if you are going to smoke it in a month or less. It's not going to age very much in that time Anyway. If it will take longer than a month to smoke through it...

    The Lure of the Cob!!??

I've owned many different pipes of all makes and styles as I refurbish and resell them as hobby/side hustle. I basically switched over to cobs almost all the time now. I find the draw to be perfect, and the bowl size of the legend/pride is also perfect for the shorter smokes a take, light weight...

Any Tips for Dealing with MacBite?

I'd give a shot at drying it out even more. Overnight or a full 24 hours. I'll often leave flakes out for a couple days and then throw them in an old tin where they will get even drier as I smoke them during the week.

If You Can’t Taste the Nuances…

I dive deep into blends and zone in on all the various flavours. I think it adds to the enjoyment by noticing all the aspects that a particular blend or leaf has to offer. It becomes easier and requires less focusing power the more you do it. Alot of it has to do with just having the...

Explain The Meditative Stage (Out of Body Experience)

Trance states and meditative states can be brought on by many different means and the tobacco pipe can be one of them. It can change your perspective, hence why many great minds and thinkers have utilized this aspect of pipe smoking. But change the state of the mind and the body will follow...

    Is it a Falcon?

Looks kind of like a koolsmoke. They had the chrome covered steel instead of pure aluminum like a falcon. My koolsmoke pipes have a little nut inside the bottom that you can adjust the height or gap at the bottom of the bowl. So not sure If it's one of those but the design is pretty close.

What Do You Use for a 5-Minute Smoking Break

5 min is pretty short, but a small cob with some fine cut tobacco would work well. I occasionally will have a 10-15 min smoke, just pack it looser in my legend/pride cob or falcon with some fine ribbon cut Kentucky or something strong.

Tell Us About Your Health And Pipe Smoking

I'm 35 and 165lb. In good shape cause I'm a small scale organic farmer, so lots of walking and picking weeds. Been smoking for 15 years, mostly cigarettes but kicked the cigs over a year ago and now I'm about 3-4 bowls a day but ocasionally more. I sometimes inhale. I don't feel any negative...

Interview With JimInks At Smoking Pipes

Excellent article! I am grateful for all his reviews and the time he puts into them. Nice to know the story behind the man, and it's quite an impressive story!

    Strong Tobaccos

As someone else suggested, WLT Kentucky has some serious punch. Easy to roll or twist up and cut up. Get some of thier perique to go with it and you'll have something that'll no doubt smack ya upside the head. I'm sure cock n boll twist will also fit the bill, but I haven't tried that myself.

Rum on Tobacco, then Jarred for Two Years....??

Ya best to just spray it on don't need more than a teaspoon to a tablespoon for 50g of tobacco. It will need some serious dry time with a cup! I wouldn't jar it up while it's super wet for more than a couple days as you could run into mold issues. Sometimes I'll spray some rum or alcohol on...

    Summer Blends

Yep in my whole leaf blends I've been using a heavier hand with the stoved virginias and perique and less Kentucky and latakia.
