Experienced Pipers 20 Years+ Opinions on Definitive Blends

Fair enough. I've been smoking pipe tobaccos near 20 years, but consider none of them (or their 'lore') definitive, so I'll just beg off. I think the term just doesn't work for me in re pipe tobaccos. Do have fun with it and ignore me ;)

Experienced Pipers 20 Years+ Opinions on Definitive Blends

I understand the term perfectly well -- I just don't think it applies to tobacco blends in any way. What's the definitive codger blend? What's the definitive VaPer? I just don't see how we can apply the answers here.

    Do You Keep The Box?

Never. I throw away the 'socks' as well, and any other packaging. If I don't do it immediately, I'll toss 'em a year or three later anyway.

Experienced Pipers 20 Years+ Opinions on Definitive Blends

This brings to mind Reddit surveys of favorite Rolling Stones songs, etc. There is not going to be a definitive answer to any categories, as per the definition of definitive itself. Answers, yes. Definitive answers, no. It's just an ad hoc survey.

    A Match or a Lighter?

I only smoke outdoors, so...a lighter.

    First Bowl of the Day

First thing for me is coffee and a strong burley in a cob. Usually Five Brothers or Kelly's Coin.

***What Are You Smoking, July 2022?***

Big n' Burley in a Country Gent cob. I keep forgetting I have this blend as it's not in my "current rotation" area.

***What Are You Smoking, July 2022?***

Great pairing with coffee. That coffee looks great! Do you have an espresso machine?

***What Are You Smoking, July 2022?***

Wilke Wall Street in a Country Gent. This has ascended to being my primary all-day smoke. Nice work @JimInks (and John Brandt?) !

What Are You Listening To? ~ July 2022

Warren Zevon -- Excitable Boy, The Envoy, Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner, etc

***What Are You Smoking, July 2022?***

Briar Fox in a MM Freehand cob.
  12. --dante--

    Pouches

That's me. I use empty Five Brothers pouches. Being a dry, straight burley, they don't "ghost" the pouch, so you pack in whatever you like.

    Finally Tried Granger

I very much like Granger, but to me it's not one to enjoy without thinking. I actually have to sit back and sip to appreciate it.

***What Are You Smoking, July 2022?***

SPC Hood Canal in Country Gent.

    Slices As A Tobacco Cut

I had forgotten this tin of SPC Hood Canal I had opened. That's got the thick cake/slice thing going. As a side note, the blend that got me started on this thread, WC Nor'Easter seems to be a near match to Hood Canal.

    Slices As A Tobacco Cut

Thanks I'll check out some Sutliff blends. I must admit I've never given them much of a look.

First Image From James Webb Space Telescope

Yeah, even the launch had to be perfect -- this mission had a lot of steps that had to unfold just so. It's a bit of a miracle it's operational.

First Image From James Webb Space Telescope

Yep, that gravitational lensing was predicted by Einstein -- crazy that gravity can even bend light. I remember reading that even Newtonian physics allowed for gravitational lensing, but to a much lesser degree.

    Slices As A Tobacco Cut

Yeah I'm referring to "slices" not flakes. The last thing I want to deal with is thicker flakes. I avoid anything sold as a flake (at least the heavily-cased European ones) because it's like I have to have a have a shrine of drying flakes on my deck just to be able to smoke the darn things.

    Slices As A Tobacco Cut

I agree that most anything from SG or G&H are a PITA, but those are different, they are actually very thick flakes, not slices of crumble cake.
