    Dating a Dunhill Tanshell

The date marking indicates that the pipe was made in 1977. "It is very common for folks to buy a dunhill new, years after it was made." I have a Dunhill that has two date codes, indicating it was made in 1957 and shipped by Dunhill 6 years later in 1963, the year I bought it. So I'm not that...

    Dunhill What Is It

"I spent some time researching your pipe but cannot find anything that explains the name nina" Piperl12, The Nina was one of the three ships Columbus used in his voyage. The others were The Pinta and The Santa Mara, which is the reason rothnh speculated that there were at least three pipes in...

    New Davorin Morta - PICS

Nice looking pipe, zonomo. I like the dark cumberland stem and the insert. The insert makes a nice contrast. What is the insert made of? It looks like ivory. From what I've heard, when Dunhill first started using cumberland stems, they were made of the same rubber compound used in bowling...

    A Wierd Tobacco Story

Funny story. Do you remember what kind of blend it was? I immediately thought of Merd de Cheval, which is sold by 4Noggins. Checked PipeTobacco reviews just now. There is a blend called Elephant Dung sold by a chain of stores in Switzerland called Synjeco.

    Boston Trip - Pipe Hunting

Peretti's has a huge selection of blends. I suggest checking their website before going, to get an idea of what they have. If you get into Worcester, be sure to visit The Owl Shop on Main Street.

John Middleton 'Carter Hall' Pipe Tobacco

I bought a pouch of Carter Hall last summer, to smoke in cobs while out doing yard work. I enjoyed the nutty taste enough to wonder what a higher priced Burley blend would be like, so I got some Solani and Wessex burley. I like those even more, so I'll always keep all three on hand from now on.

HELP! I Need Help Identifying This Logo On This Meerschaum

Nice find! If they used 10 carat gold, it must have been a pretty pricey pipe when new.

Replacement Stems, How Much do They Reduce the Value?

rothnh, I agree and am sending the pipes to Mike for tenon replacement Walker Briar is among those few who get very the highest recommendations. I've seen the discussions on delrin and will have them use it on my pipes. What I particularly like about them is their "no scuff" repair technique...

    My First And Second Pipe

sandblassted, I thought you would enjoy the article. There's a picture tour of the Radice shop online somewhere, but I couldn't find it. The shop is the size of a two car garage and only 3 or 4 people work there. It has pictures of Luigi hand carving a pipe in something like a New Dear finish...

Replacement Stems, How Much do They Reduce the Value?

rothnh' thanks for your answer, Let me clarify my original question, which I now see needed some editing. I have a Dunhill and Charatan with broken tenons. Except for the broken tenon, the rest of the stem is intact on both pipes. I talked to Dave about doing replacement stems for several pipes...

Do You Smoke Through Your Cold/Flu?

I lay off the when I get a cold. Smoking isn't enjoyable then. I don't have a cold, but I've been experiencing some soreness deep in my throat the last few days. I've been smoking Virginias and Vapers this last week. I'm not sure if they are the cause, so I'll lay off smoking for a few days...

What Are You Smoking? *March 2013*

Solani 633 Virginia in a Lane era Charatan Executive tall billiard. It has a tall, narrow chamber, so I am considering dedicating it to Virginia/Vapers.

Replacement Stems, How Much do They Reduce the Value?

Would replacing a broken tenon on a stem, instead of replacing the entire stem have less effect on the loss in value of a pipe? Also would using a vulcanite replace instead of delrin help in maintaining the pipe's value? I would think it may, but I wonder what everyone else's opinion is. I ask...

    My First And Second Pipe

Welcome to the forum. Few smokers started out with the quality of pipes you have. That Radice is a beauty. You might find this link interesting as it gives some of the history of Radice pipes. Peppino Ascorted started working for Castello, then partnered with Luigi Radice in making Caminneto...
