Here's an example of what many years of smoking and waxing can do with a Peterson African Block Meerschaum... Remember that they are all colored at the factory with pigment finish and the Pipe has to darken beyond that, as well as compensate for the calcination process. -

Nice patina Dave..! How long did it take you to get this Pipe to color and what blends do you generally smoke in it? Are you using white Beeswax? Your concern for overheating the Vulcanite bit is understandable. When I use the hot wax application method, I remover all of the plastic fittings... -

Stonehaven...thoughts
I've yet to be successful in getting this blend to perform for me. After trying different Pipes, different moisture contents, smoking it in the slice, cubed and rubbed out, all I can get is a rather mediocre taste and an elusive character of flavor. It's just not for me...- fred

Word to the wise... 4 2oz tins comes to $34.20, while the 8oz tin costs $39.99... Go figure, but I don't think this will last a long time. As much as I'd like to see it in bulk, I don't think that will happen anytime soon. Currently, it is a wise time to buy at these prices. :puffy:- fred

Thanks guys, but I'm thinking that these Pipes have been out of production for awhile... The Peterson Isle of Man factory ceased operation about 1981 and the production of African Meers was moved to Dublin and continued there until 1986. The Isle of Man factory continued making African block... -

Thanks guys. In answer to Olderthandirt's question..., not to me. All of my African Block Meerschaums have been colored with pigment at the factory. The unstained appearance of African Block is a mottled gray, that many find distracting. The pigment colored Meerschaums do eventually color...
