I think that a year steeped in coffee beans would definitely produce a result - it'd be hard for the tobacco not to take on a flavour with that length of time... sjpipesmoker, I would think that fresh peel can definitely mold. That's why I asked was it dried... I also was asking about whole items because the idea was not to smoke the spice, but to remove them from the tobacco after a set period of maturation in the hopes that the essence of the spice...- sparroa

Thomas, you don't "need" any pipes more sophisticated than a cob. It is a preference thing. Perhaps you should continue to sample tobaccos as widely as possible using your cobs until you are settled on what you like and dislike. They are great for that purpose... Any Mead Drinkers?
I've had some from Quebec. I loved it. I greatly preferred the dry example I had to white wines of a similar price... I'm interested in making my own at some point. You are lucky to have some meadmakers nearby - you can't buy it in my province or in most parts of Canada to be honest.- sparroa

timm, There is no way to avoid the "bad stuff" such as tar and nicotine in any tobacco. Some are milder than others and you can employ moderation to reduce the harm, but there's no such thing as a harmless tobacco or that's what everyone would be smoking.
