What Are You Smoking? November 2013

    Incredible Baki Basketweave

I mean as a compliment...that meerschuam doesn't even look carved, it looks as if it were molded. I can barely peel potatoes and these guys can carve artwork out of "stone".

    Report on Vintage Hilsons

Thanks for the info Kevin. I like their old Prince shapes. Roth, I kind of wondered that. Their shapes have really varied over the years. Some of the older pipes are "smaller" and classic shapes and some of the slightly older pipes are weird sitter/freehands, dromedarys(ies?), and bigger...

    Report on Vintage Hilsons

I have 5 Hilson's, 4 of which I think are Belgium made. Four of them are great smokers. I haven't bought any of the NOS that you mention Foggy, but I have been thinking about getting one. I've yet to knowingly smoke an oil cured pipe as of yet, since 99% of my pipes are off ebay and I'm...

    Select My Next English

I was a bit dissappointed by my Red Rapparee I felt it was a bit too light. I've only smoked two bowls of it, but as of right now I'm underwhelmed by it. I'm going to give it a few more goes before I mix it with some latakia. Presbyterian is on my short list. Last year was Year of the...

Any Falcon Pipe Smokers Out There

I have a straight stem Falcon that Iove. At first I thought they were a bit odd, but they are just really comfortable to clench and I always get a nice dry smoke. Lets us know how you make out! Erps didn't see it was a 2 year old thread, but still I love my Falcon.

    Goodbye, Red Virginia

I'm the same way but with burley. However you can not go wrong with Marlin Flake. It's like smoking raisens with a little honey and white pepper sprinkled on it. Sticky sweet goodness.

    McClelland Bulk A.M. Pipe

Thanks for the review Mike. Its one that's on my short list. I grabbed a tin of H&H Daybreak this time around (haven't cracked it yet). I'm not so much in looking for a cheaper EMP as I'm just a fan of light Englishes. Have you tried Lane's Leo yet? I've been shilling for it nonstop.

    Frog Morton Issues

I'm actually not a fan of Frogs, I get a slight metallic plum taste from it. I think it's the topping. It makes my mouth feel "sharp" like some aros do for me. I think it's more of a chemistry thing on my end.

    Danish PAD Strikes Again!

That's a good looking pipe! Yeah, PAD and Tad can't really be controlled, just directed or refocused.

What Are You Smoking? November 2013

    Any Suggested Order Filler?

Ditto what Burl said. Tudor Castle! Jubilee is always welcome as well.

Jim's Visit to Sutliff Tobacco Company

Jim thanks for your impressions. I'm glad you got to go and enjoyed yourself. I'm a lone smoker in this town (it feels like) and it's great to share your experiences.

    1st PAD Of November, Savinelli!

Man, I'm digging that pot-like shape. You could do a lot of simmering in there. Nice price!

    Aldo Velani Pipes? Any Info?

I have two (one which I haven't smoked yet) and I love it. It's even got that lacquer finish, but smokes dry and doesn't get hot at all. I always keep my eye out for them on ebay, but they've been creeping up in price IMO.
