What do You Means about Stinger?

My father used to smoke several pipes with stingers when I was very young, and, to this day, every time I think of him with a pipe, I still hear a gurgle.

    Scotch

I second the Laphroaig. The quarter-cask is especially peaty. Like a campfire. The next day. Also, Scapa is a nice Orkney Islands peaty drink if you can find it.

    Reviewing The Basics

Agreed - this has really changed my appreciation of the pipe. I started pipe-smoking with bulk cased aromatics and thought for years that dry pipe tobacco was bad. Boy, was I wrong.

That last little bit of unused tobacco....

I started to keep a leftovers jar when I bought two ounces of a bulk blend called Natural Cavendish that was neither (and burned like a blowtorch) with the idea that if I could get enough other blends with it I could smoke it. I've added the remains of crossover English blends, some VaPer flake...

    It's Saturday

It's a great day here - celebrating wedding anniversary number 12. Bonus: the wife likes (not only tolerates) the latakia blends I smoke. I did well. :-)

    Match vs lighter

I use a Bic in the car or outside the house - I'd rather spend any cash I have on tobacco. (Inside, I like matches. The Diamond ones work for me.)

    My Altadis Free Sample!

I received a tin of No. 5 yesterday, but I'm not going to open it yet (too many tins open right now). I had forgotten that I'd sent in for the sample. It is nice that they sent an entire tin. I hope the tobacco is as good as the marketing.

How Do You Like Your Steak?

Raw. We have tartare once a week. The eggs and beef come from farms outside the food industry - no hormones, no antibiotics, no processing plant, and run by people we know and trust. If it's not tartare, it's seared on high heat and that's all. I never eat beef outside my own home.

What are You Smoking? December, 2012

I'm having some 25-year old (or so) Kiepenkerl Altgold from Olden Kott in a no-name pot, which is about all it deserves.

    Capt. Earle's Ten Russians

I agree with Jud - it doesn't seem to be very complex, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Ten Russians is a straightforward latakia blend that is simple and delicious with a fairly high amount of nicotine.

Peterson Irish Oak & Dunhill Night Cap

Nightcap is the one tobacco the absence of which causes me pain. My feelings about Nightcap almost convince me that pipe smoking is physiologically addictive. 8O

    MacBaren HH Vintage Syrian

This was recommended to me at my local B&M; otherwise, I wouldn't have picked it up. I'm glad I did - after about a dozen bowls, I've really begun to enjoy it. It's very smooth and a little spicy at the same time. I had been afraid of the McBite possibility, but haven't encountered that with...
