    Oriental's and VaPerOr's Experiences

Escioe, thank you for the recommendations. Good catch Les. I meant the Mixture line. Coalsmoke thanks for the info. I always plan out and stalk my orders, this one is proving to be the most fun yet.

    Oriental's and VaPerOr's Experiences

Les, thanks for the response. It's a really interesting sub-"genre" of tobacco in my opinion. Trucha. I'll have to try that. I haven't had good luck with C&D tobaccos as odd as that sounds. I tend to find McCelland and Rattray fit in my wheel house better. The only Grand Oriental I've had is...

    Oriental's and VaPerOr's Experiences

So I've been falling down the rabbit hole of enjoying several blends with a more "Oriental" bend to them. I have a few thoughts and then a few questions. 1. The term Oriental is HUGE and confusing. One minute it's used to describe Latakia but blends with Latakia are called Latakia blends and...

1st TAD Of 2014! A Birthday Present To Myself!

Enjoy! I've only tried one of those. Feel free to send me the ones I haven't.

    Neanderthal Newbee Kit

Nice! Man sometimes I just prepack a cob, grab a bic, and use my finger for a tamper. I can't be bothered with gear I've got beers to hold and three kids to wrangle. I have two modes. Smoking at rest (with all the cute trimmings and rituals) and smoking at unrest (which involves working and/or...

    Dutch pipe makers?

Thanks Arno. I enjoy your blog by the way. Carcosa that looks great. Please let me know how it smokes. They've got some really nice shapes. Al Pascia has some very nice ones. http://www.alpascia.com/pipes/d/Big-Ben-028-i25814.html Back to Hilson. I do have one newer one (stamped made in...

    Air Pocket Method.....A Testamonial

Funny you mention this. I was having a smoke at work today and was noting that I always get a "good" smoke out of using this method in a cob. I think this is the same reasoning why my Falcon always gives me a good smoke.

Does honey coating help break innew pipe?

Personally I use the honey (mixed with ash) when I'm patching over any spider webbing in the bowl. You will taste it. It will be a bit chunky but once you ream it back down you won't notice it IMO. I haven't bought many pipes new, but the Peterson Shamrock I got was unfinished and smoked just...

    Terrible week, wife in hospital.

This times 100. Don't be afraid to bounce a Doctor out on his ass either. Like anything else, there's good ones and bad ones. Thinking of you and yours my friend.

    Dutch pipe makers?

Hello! I get confused when it comes to what some people consider Holland and the rest of the Netherlands, but you might want to check out http://pipedia.org/wiki/Category:Netherlands I've got a few older Hilson's that I love. They are on sale at Pipes and Cigars too. As far as the Big Bens...

Captain Black: Dark in a BC bent brandy my kids bought me for my birthday two years ago. Heaviest damn pipe I own. I could club baby seals with this.

Thank You, Leonard Wortzel- Crown Achievement Package

When I was a kid, I used to get excited for new movies to come out. As I got older I used to get excited for new books to come out. Nowadays I get excited for new tobaccos to come out.

Rattray's Red Rapparee in an old Hilson blasted bulldog. It's cut pretty classic English but big and Danish. Good combo for a pipe.

    Thunderbird Insert Flame.

Yeah I benched mine. I usually get a raw thumb trying to light the darn thing. I have a Zippo but haven't tried it yet. I'd rather just leave a few Bic lighters scattered around the house and truck.

    Aromaticize Me

Good luck in your experiment! Mac Baren Vanilla Cream Flake and Captain Black: Dark are my breaks from my norm.

    Estate eBay Burnout?

I can't see the first pic, but for 15 bucks I'd mix up some ash and honey then mud the bowl. Once you get some cake built up I think you'd be fine. I have a Caminetto just like that and it smokes just fine. Good luck whatever you decide!
