***What Are You Smoking *** (April 2015)

Sutliff's Court of St. James in a Castello paneled billiard. Coffee. After the kid's swim lessons, the library, I've got some yard work lined up. Then it's a cob all day.

What Do Pipe Smokers Do For A Living?

Maintenance Superintendent at my city's Park Department. I started here when I was 16.....I'm shy of 40 now. I can't smoke at work anymore.

Jim's Sutliff Private Stock Reviews, Chapter Two!

Two weeks later. I'm still enjoying the Court. I'm noticing that about 2/3 of the way down it tends to get a little muted and "harsh" in taste, but not unpleasant enough to dump it. Could also be my tastebuds getting potholes in it from the coffee and smoke around that point. Another I've...

    Aging Sutliff?

I hadn't been happy with any of my Sutliff blends to even think about aging them until recently. Court of St. James will never replace my favorites but I've been smoking it for about a month and I enjoy it. It's not as tangy and saucy as McCelland's wonderful Virginia blends, but a nice light...

***What Are You Smoking *** (March 2015)

Sutliff's Court of St. James in a fugly, fill filled, Peterson XL315, Marty Pulver's sold me for $35. This pipe smokes fantastic and I always look forward to grabbing it. Black coffee. Waiting for 2/3's of the kids to get done with swim lessons.

Mario Grandi Pipe Review (Picture Heavy)

Found a pic. Pardon the posed shot, but I like to taunt my buddy with relaxtion shots while he's working....

Mario Grandi Pipe Review (Picture Heavy)

Bernie, I have a nice apple I bought that I really like. It smokes really consistant and dry. The only thing I don't care for is the button....its a bit large and clunky. As a clencher it bugs me, but I haven't gotten around to filing it down. Sometimes their stem work puts me off but I'd...

    Dream Calabash PAD

But can it pass a pipe cleaner? KIDDING! Banjo...that is a beauty. I love the detail work in the cup.

Jim's Sutliff Private Stock Reviews, Chapter Two!

Zekest. That's one of my exact problems. Burley hurts my whole mouth within the first few puffs. I really liked Barking Dog, but yeah I could never finish a bowl. I want to love Bosphorus Cruise and I can't FIND anything that says it's got burley in it, but for some reason I get a mouth...

Jim's Sutliff Private Stock Reviews, Chapter Two!

Jim....I didn't pick up any Latakia in Court of St. James while smoking it....but I did seem to smell it in the tin and disregarded it...(always gives a mint smell to me). Your palate is much better then mine I suspect. I was pleasantly surprised at this tobacco. Sutliff tobaccos have always...

***What Are You Smoking *** (Feb. 2015)

Sutliff's Court of St. James in a Castello panel billiard. Coffee. Waiting to pick up 2/3's of the kids from swimming lessons. Nice tobacco. Sutliff has been really hit or miss for me, but this is nice. It's not in your face McClelland Virginia's (which I love) but subtly tangy with some...

I'm Going To Start Hoarding This Delicious Beer!

Cheers MLC. I'll have to give it a go. Bell's Oberon is my go to in the Summer. Stolen from their website... I don't go for wheat beers very often but this one is just fantastic. Goes great with Vapers. My fridge is usually stocked with it and Lagunitas's "Little Sumpin Sumpin" for the summer.

    SG Squadron Leader

Hey Kane. I like Skiff, but it isn't as sweet as S.L. in my opinion. Squadron Leader has a sweet, soft nutty flavor, where SKiff is thinner and a more pronounced Oriental taste. Rsuninv and I swapped some tobacco awhile back and he sent me a bunch of S.L. Really tasty stuff, no fuss, no...

    Thoughts on Stanwell.

I have an older Danish one that smokes wonderful. I had a new Italian one, but I just couldn't get into it so I sold it. I think it was more an individual pipe issue then the Italian make as a whole. I like some of the older shapes on the Danish produced pipes, but I'd try another newer one...

    Virginia Enlightenment

I honestly don't enjoy "pure" Virginia's. I can appreciate things like Capstan Blue and the like, but I just find them one dimensional and "thin". I tend to lean towards VaPers and hybrids with Orientals and Cavendish in them. I think I am able to pick up the interplay between the different...

    Best VaPer Flake?

Since your not above smoking "pure" VaPers.... Tudor Castle by McCelland and Butra's Blended Flake are my top two. They both contain a bit of cedar/herb-like Oriental in them, but they are fantastic. PS LNF and Marlin Flake as mentioned about are also excellent. Edit: I actually prefer...

    My first Briar!

Welcome. Digging that pipe and puck in the background. Go Northstars! Wait I mean go Wild! If your in the states shoot me a pm. I'll be glad to send you some samples of whatever I have open.

    Jim's McClelland Tudor Castle Review.

Pretty close to my own thoughts. This is one of my absolute favorites. I find the Orientals get a very ceder-like quality to them. It's fantastic paired with a stout. Very close is Butra's Blended Flake....another fantastic blend I cellar.

    Hilson Pipes

The older ones are stamped made in Belgium. I have had about 6-7, both new and old. I traded off three but they are great smokers. The remaining two old ones smoke really dry and they are very light. IIRC the same company that makes Big Ben used to manufacture them at one time. I plan on...

    Looking to try a Balkan

I hope you enjoy your order. I like Skiff a bit, not sure it'll replace EMP or LEO for me, but I could smoke few tins of it and be happy. For me it works best in a smaller diameter pipe, smoked slow and retrohaled. The Orientals get herb like and distinct. Smoked too fast and it tastes...
