    Are Savinelli Tobacco Pipes Collectable

I always hunt for Savinelli Milanos on ebay. They used to go really cheap and imo are underrated.

    Old Dublin

I did enjoy my tin of Old Dublin. Jim take a look over at Dunhill's 965. GL Pease makes a mighty fine Chelsea Morning too.

    Petersons Irish Oak

Perique that's a pretty good review. Similar to my thoughts on it. It might be the marketing, but I swear I can taste a sherry/vinegar taste the first few minutes of the bowl. I have a reaction to burley normally, but I can tolerate Irish Oak pretty well. I bought another tin and tossed it in...

A Cleaning Question and Another Estate Pipe ID

You might be surprised how easy that cake pops out, sometimes in those old beaters it comes out in uneven chunks. I usually take them down to just a bit before bare wood. I have a senior reamer I like but it doesn't see too much use. I stopped using salt and now just use alcohol and cotton...

    Sparrowhawk Is Back!

Welcome back Sparrow! Yeah I'm due for a new desktop, I've rebuilt this one so many times it's like Frankenstein.

    B&M in Chicago

Iwan Ries is a fantastic shop. The employees know exactly when to help you and exactly when to leave you alone. That IMO is a lost art gone the way of the "specialist" salesman. My wife still teases me because the first time I went I paid just as much in parking as I did in the shop. IIRC...

What are You Smoking? ***March 2014***

H&H's Louisiana Red in a straight apple Vienna Meerschaum. Waiting to pick up the kids from swim lessons.

    Cracking on the bowl coating?

Looks like a burnout to me. I'm not saying burnouts don't happen, but I've puffed the HELL out of some of my pipes when first starting out and never came close to that. Did you smoke it in a steady wind or something? Yeah or a very thick and uneven bowl coating. Is it an estate? I've fixed...

What are You Smoking? ***March 2014***

Rattray's Marling Flake in an Aldo Velani Apple (second pipe I ever bought). Coffee and waiting for to pick the kids up from swimming lessons.

    Anniversary Kake

I actually didn't care for my first few bowls of it. I jarred it and plan on breaking it out this summer and giving it a fair shake. LA Red is usually my go to morning smoke.

    Point of Diminishing Returns

This is why the estate and restoration aspect is so important to me. I can get a much higher grade pipe for a much lower cost. When starting out I've really tried to focus on good quality estates, but I've spent more resources (time/money) on tobacco. But if I'm just throwing out a dollar...

    SMS Pipe Review?

Thanks, for the responses. I had an estate CAO meer I sold off because the bowl was just too big for my liking and didn't clench well. I've been looking at the various meerschaum sites and have been narrowing it down to IMP, SMS, Meerqueen, and of course Mr. Baki. I really don't NEED a new...

    Favorite Bourbon Whiskey?

Since this thread started I've gone through about 4 bottles of Buffalo Trace (which I tried on account of y'all). It has become my favorite go to bourbon. I still like Knob Creek and like to try new to me offerings, but Buffalo Trace has a permanent spot in my liquor cabinet for the...

Can you tell me about my first nording?

Nice Nording. I've got a smaller Cobra from the Hunter series that while on the opposite end of the shape and size spectrum, is a great little flake pipe. I've been very happy with it and one of these days I'd like to grab another Nording. Just haven't seen the right one, although I'll let you...

    That first English... the horror.

After tasting Hyde Park (which is topped with Dawn dish soap and Snuggles fabric softener) I am scared of all Lakelands.

    Rattray's Marlin Flake

Ditto Bill. Marlin Flake has that perfect sweet/peppery taste that I love. It's nothing like Marlin Flake but if you order often from 4noggins, you should get a few ounces of Prairie Wind. Its a nice cool smoke.

    Ashton Pebblecut

Pitch, thanks for the thoughts. This one is on my short list for my next quartly order. I know it doesn't have Perique in it, but have you tried McCelland's Arcadia? I keep trying to branch out, but McCelland's Virginias just hit my sweet spot.

Just Off The Bench- A Sandblasted Caracol

Zach I love seeing your work. That blast is sharp.

    Big News! Future Pipe Smoker!

Congrats. I have three and they've all taught me so much good and bad about myself. I'm really happy for you and your missus.

    Stokkebye Luxury Bulls-Eye Flake Questions

I store mine like rsuninv. I like it fresh, but it's even better with six months on it. I've got a batch I'm going to open this summer that is a year old. I plan on opening a new batch every six months to see how it compares. When it fresh it's a bit grassy and sharp (not in a bad way) and it...
