Some of the best dining out in Chicago is in some of the ethnic restaurants -- Polish, Lithuanian, Hungarian, German --
out in the neighborhoods. These require some navigating, but you can get some distinctive, excellent food for not
very much money, but you have to go looking for it. Downtown, everything is overpriced and not so great, mostly.
There is/was a great old German restaurant called Berghoff's downtown, but it closed for a while, opened again, and
I'm not sure how it is. Used to be dignified older waiters who conducted you through the meal with solemn knowhow.
