Can anyone recommend a store in Chicago, I will be there in July and want to have it all planned out

I live in FL and have bought many pipes from them. Very pleasant experience and good prices on the pipes I bought.
Always call them to ask questions. They have lots of pipes so what you see on their website may not be accurate. They have always been helpful and they will answer any questions you have.

Not sure what recommendations you might mean. . . Just stop in -- they're on the second floor of their building -- and take a look around. They have a ton of tinned blends and lots of pipes.
And if you happen to like cupcakes, I highly recommend also checking out Sugar Bliss, a block or two south of Iwan Ries on Wabash.
If you're not familiar with the city, Iwan Ries is in the heart of the Loop -- easy walking distance, say, to the Art Institute. They're also very close to a metro stop.

Iwan Ries isn't just a good Chicago pipe shop. It is the mother church for pipe smokers in the Midwest, since 1857.
They have a pipe lounge where you could spend most of a day for a few dollars. They have 12,000 pipes in inventory.
Unless you plan to make a major pipe purchase, I would suggest you at least buy an Iwan Ries Exclusives house pipe
when you're there, compact small pipes or about $35 or medium size for about $55, stamped with Iwan Ries. They're
good briar pipes, Algerian briar I believe, made by Benton pipes in Texas. They have a huge selection of tobacco.
They are in the same general neighborhood of the Art Institute of Chicago and Millennial Park, so you can combine
these tourist destinations. Along with Nat Sherman on East 42nd Street in Manhattan, it is one of the major pipe
shops in the U.S.

I've got 3 Iwan Ries house pipes,of various ages. All smaller bowls (Group 3), all used for Virginias. One I found while beach walking on the Michigan side of Lake Michigan during a storm lull, well over 30 years ago. Took it home, dried it out,cleaned it up - voila. :puffpipe:
Iwan Ries is a fantastic shop. The employees know exactly when to help you and exactly when to leave you alone. That IMO is a lost art gone the way of the "specialist" salesman.
My wife still teases me because the first time I went I paid just as much in parking as I did in the shop.
IIRC there's a Cajun place called Heaven on Seven a few blocks away. Not as good as the mom and pop shops I ate at in Louisiana but not half bad.

Some of the best dining out in Chicago is in some of the ethnic restaurants -- Polish, Lithuanian, Hungarian, German --
out in the neighborhoods. These require some navigating, but you can get some distinctive, excellent food for not
very much money, but you have to go looking for it. Downtown, everything is overpriced and not so great, mostly.
There is/was a great old German restaurant called Berghoff's downtown, but it closed for a while, opened again, and
I'm not sure how it is. Used to be dignified older waiters who conducted you through the meal with solemn knowhow.

No question Iwan Ries. Maybe swing by Jack Schwartz since it is not far away but you could spend hours in Iwan Ries. Get a day pass to the smoking lounge if you have time.
I'm actually at Iwan Ries right now!! I have a short layover in Chicago today. I'll have to check out their house pipes while I'm here. Amazing store!! Although, Chocago tobacco taxes are crazy!! $35 worth of tobacco had $15 of tax added onto it. Ouch!
They did have some pretty great deals on pipes however..
Honestly, a tin of Christmas cheer from my local b&m in Minnesota would be roughly $30 before tax. I don't blame you for shopping online when you live in Chicago.
