    Fighting the knight

I cannot keep Frog Morton lit. Same with Lancer's Slicers....but oh so tasty once or twice a year. I can't speak to packing methods to help keep it lit, but on the bite...certain blends I have to have an air pocket...Red Rapparee being one of them. Otherwise it's just s hot mess for me. I...

Tom Palmer of Peterson on Radio Show of July 28, 2015

Let's ask him if he still beats his wife too. *kidding* Honestly I haven't heard any interview (Admittedly I haven't listened lately) take a run at the guests. I realize that a lot of people have reported QC issues the last couple of years and seem to remember Mr. Palmer talking about...

    Chacom USA vs. Unfinished Savinelli

Mso. I meant more the fills on mine being ugly. I love natural pipes. I've come so close to buying an unfinished Nording, but I can't get comfortable with free hands (I've gotten rid of some beautiful Preben Holmes and others). And I keep looking at Luciano and Radice naturals...but I spend...

*** What Are You Smoking?*** (July 2015)

McClelland's Tudor Castle in an Aldo Velani bent apple. Coffee.

    Chacom USA vs. Unfinished Savinelli

I can only speak to the unfinished Savinelli. But I bought one when I first started smoking and it's the UGLIEST pipe in the world. However it's also one of the most reliable pipes I have. No matter what I'm doing or smoking it's always effortless. I never worry about setting it down on the...

Il Duca Barone B3 Natural Lovat

I really have come to like the Il Duca brand. They got some of the best Italian "billiards" I've seen. They have a simplicity about them but there's always a bit of flair somehow. And the natural finish? Can't go wrong with that. Enjoy that pipe, its a beauty!

*** What Are You Smoking?*** (July 2015)

McClelland's Tudor Castle in my Castello panel Sea Rock. Coffee and catching up on the internet since it's the weekend.

Getting a New Meerschaum from Meerschaum Market

Yeah Booker I'm with you. I have smoked a few I bought as estates but I've resold most of them. I have a really nice older one that my four year old dropped and broke the stem but I haven't gotten it restemmed. I'd really like to get a new one just to start the coloring process on my own, but...

what kind of tobacco did you enjoy on the 4th an what did you do to celebrate

Smoked some LBF in a Castello while drinking my coffee in the AM. Had some more LBF in an estate Hilson while working on my Mom's deck in the PM. So solid....some of those old Hilson's.

    KBB Yello Bole Resto

You let the flame touch. I used a candle. I stopped using salt...now I just use cotton balls and vodka. I worked halfass on a Hilson stem this weekend and I finally smoked it. I really enjoyed it, I'm going to have to go back and do it right.

    KBB Yello Bole Resto

As far as other methods.....I've used a lighter on vulcanite to remove oxidation. You still needed to use an abrasive to get it off and honestly I'm not sure if its any better then a little bleach and water.

    Won 2 Estate Pipes

Beware! My wife always steals my brushes for cleaning. You don't want them back after that. Looking forward to seeing them all cleaned up. I worked on a stem today for awhile....my sore hands remind me why I hate vulcanite.

    New Rafa Martin

My first thought was Calabash and a Rhodesian's love child. That is a very nice pipe. I love bare bowls. I love coated ones too, but there's something about a brand new bowl developing cake.

New Peterson Atlantic and Peterson Jekyll and Hyde

https://petersonpipenotes.wordpress.com/tag/peterson-atlantic-pipe/ I like the Fisherman billiard.

    "Natural" Pipes?

I love natural pipes. I have a Sav I bought for 40 bucks that's taken on a nice brownish red. I like stripping down and sanding ebay buys too.

The Quality and Value of Pipes Costing Below $96

As usual it's always nice to see a varied response. I built up the majority of my collection with mid grade factory pipes. I've rotated out the ones that didn't work for me and I've got a nice stable of reliable pipes. I finally bought my first $300+ new pipe and I have to say it smokes finer...

***What Are You Smoking *** (April 2015)

Rattray's Red Rapparee in a rusticated Peterson XL315. Coffee. Getting ready to go outside and do some yard work. I also just googled Rapparee....

    Dr Grabow Silver Duke

I have a real soft spot for Grabows. My first briar pipe was a Dr. Grabow Omega. I've picked up a Viscount pot that smokes great and a Starfire Dublin that smokes VaPers very well. I just wish the pot was a little bigger. I think I've got a lovat sitting around somewhere too. I hid it after...

***What Are You Smoking *** (April 2015)

Sutliff's Berkshire in a Savinelli Autograph. Coffee. Getting ready to pick up the kids from swimming then do some yard work. It's a glorious day outside.

    Breaking-in Briar Pipes

I don't smoke as much as some folks, but honestly it took me a long time to actually build up cake in my bowls. It isn't an overnight process. I haven't actually even reamed a one. Stan I've only been smoking about three years but I still haven't figured this hobby out. One day a pipe and...
