First smoke of Peterson Irish Flake

I quite enjoy Irish Flake on a once-and-a-while basis. It is definitely a meat and potatoes kind of tobacco for me, just a steady, solid, no nonsense flavor and lots of nicotine, deep and rich. I enjoy it with a nice stout, usually with the weather gets crisp in the fall. Keep trying it, it'll...

Just Cleaned Up A Peterson Dunmore, Anyone Else Have One?

I've got two, both estates in the queue for restoration. They're both in good shape, fairly large and have no bowl interior issues that I can see. One is smooth, the other rusticated but are almost exactly matched in size. The bowls need a slight cleaning/buffing on the outside, insides are...

    Is EMP An Oriental?

While I usually find that Bob's tastes impeccable, I'm afraid on this one at least, I must disagree with him. I do like to start my day with EMP and do so regularly. Good thing we all have different tastes or I'd have a hard time finding some of my favorites!

    Techical Question About Buffing Speed

Some guys use furnace motors and bearing races with a threaded rod and a Beall buffing kit or similar. Furnace motors generally run at 1750 rpm and that's what many pipe restorers seem to recommend. Reborn Briar has a blog showing a spiffy home made setup that looks like it would work quite well.

    2014 GKCPC Carving Contest Winners

Peck, you've got an Alden or two, don't you? If they smoke anything like mine, you've got some pretty nice pipes.

Spoiler alert! We have a winner in our midst.

BTW, its Ryan Alden and he is lonestar on our forum.

Spoiler alert! We have a winner in our midst.

I have a fair number of Ryan's pipes and have commissioned pipes from his early days until just recently. He just keeps getting better and it won't be long before I can't afford him. My last two purchases were blasted authors that are almost too beautiful to smoke. Almost.

Dunhill - the tobacco makes a difference

I'm a big fan of many Dunhill tobaccos. They are quite high quality tobaccos and burn very well. EMP and Elizabethan Mix are both very nice and have a place in my regular rotation.

Options if order gets caught by Canada Customs

As a consumer of tobacco products purchased via internet, I would not in any circumstances do anything to mess up my tobacco e-tailor (mostly 4Noggins) as, taxed or not, hit with customs or not, I can get tobaccos that would be impossible to acquire any other way. Our pipe brothers in the USA...

Germains Medium Flake - New Tin, Same Tobacco?

Germain's Medium Flake has been one of my first choices when I reach for a tobacco out of my stash for a while now. I've got three tins aging and one jarred for smoking. It has quite a unique tin aroma, and I know this sounds gross but it smells almost like dead grass or slightly rotting hay to...

    2014 TOBACCO PICKS

Show Us Your Pipe Rack or Cabinet

Yeah, Ruger414, it was either collect pipes and tobacco or chase women. Being as the lady I have now would strongly disapprove of me chasing women, I wisely chose to collect pipes and tobacco. This is an old picture of my tobacco cabinet I've added another 30 or so pounds in tins and bulk jars...

Show Us Your Pipe Rack or Cabinet

It has two glass doors in front but the glare wouldn't allow me the luxury of closing them and taking a photo. I'm pleased with the work and it looks really nice where it is. Its free standing against the wall, i had to install a cleat which holds it up.

Show Us Your Pipe Rack or Cabinet

Here is a picture (hopefully) of my new pipe cabinet. I waited nearly a year for it, with pipes scattered about the house on various racks. Not all my pipes are in it so will have to thin the herd, I'm afraid.

    Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture

I am a fan of most of the Dunhill offerings but its a toss up between EMP and Elizabethan Mixture for my absolute favorite. I bought several tins of Elizabethan Mix when it first came out and didn't get around to trying it for quite a while. When I did crack that first tin, it disappeared rather...

    Anyone Else Watch The Eclipse?

Same here 4dotsasieni. Clear all day and thick clouds for eclipse time. I set my alarm for it as I'm not as far west as you. Oh well, there's a few more of them coming in the next while, maybe next time.

Opinions on FVF and Mississippi River baccy

+1 rsuninv FVF (fresh)with some drying time is very good. With some age on it and prepped correctly, can be an amazing smoke. I haven't tried Mississippi River yet but its on my list.

    Dunhill "Royal Yacht"

While I've tried and like most of the Dunhill line, EMP and Elizabethan Mix are my favorites. Royal Yacht is a hit or miss with me. I've got some three year old stuff that sometimes hits the spot and sometimes makes me wonder why I have it. Kind of weird because its the only Dunhill tobacco that...

My condolences for your loss. I wish you well through this sad time.
