I have been trying and smoking some Orientals recently and have fallen hard for the McClelland Grand Oriental series thanks to the generosity of a fellow piper. I've also been smoking Dunhill's EMP for years, pounds of it in fact and I've had both the Murray's version and the much improved Orlick, IMO, offering. All this time I've considered EMP to be in the bracket of a "light" English and now it's starting to make me wonder if it should be classified as an Oriental? A good portion of what I love about this blend is easily detected in these other so called Oriental tobaccos minus the gentle pinch of Latakia that's supposedly present in EMP.
My question to those of you who are much better at discerning these things is what catagory do you place EMP? Not that any of it really matters in the grand scheme of things but I find that descriptions get clouded along the way and it's often helpful to have a more black and white definition for those that are seeking out new to them blends.
