UPDATE - Kirsten Store in Seattle

As usual in Pipedom, we disagree. They both smoke about the same, I admit, but I like the feel and appearance of the Kirsten. I have ordered one BTW.

    New Books (BAD)

Wanted to get hard copy of "Still Searching for Pipe Dreams" for some time. Smoking pipes had it. Got some consumables to make it to Free shipping, HAHA. Here it is: Black House, Bob's Chocolate Flake, MC 2010 Classic VA., 4th Generation 1855 and a tamper :puffpipe:

Gabrielle at Ruby’s Elixir Sporting a Pink Smoking Jacket & Dunhill Rubybark

What is different about this photo shoot is that Gabrielle knows how to hold a pipe. I have been "put off" by the obviously posed pipe holding of most of the past "babes". Well done! :worship:

    Vintage Aluminum Pipes

Straight vs bent availability: The Bent ones are keepers. (Just joking) Metal pipes: The 3 main makes, Falcon, Viking and Kirsten are interesting to smoke and the experience is "different". Only Falcon is still made but Kirsten may start up I have read. I do like mine. :puffy:

Dillema With Rim Plateau on a Very Nice Pipe

Hold on Gentlemen. Why not use a symmetrical flame like the Zippo pipe lighter with or without the butane insert. Or, the nimrod commander. You don't have to shoot the flame over the right hand rim that way. :puffy:

    Mark Tinsky 2013 Christmas Pipe

Very nice! I do like his style. Looks like it is a Christmas 2012 pipe. Happy puffing.

    Viking Mouthpiece Removal

If you have the metal shanked Viking, yes they stem is removable. Try putting the shank /stem in the freezer. If that does not loosen it, try freezing again but put hot wet rag only on the metal to cause it to expand keeping the stem cool and contracted. Good luck. I do like my Viking. :puffpipe:

Is it Possible to Not be Able to Taste Tobacco?

I do hesitate to say this as I will catch some grief. But, Painted you may be getting the raw mouth from smoking OTC blends. They tend to be more moist and have humidity producing chemicals that bother my mouth. If you have a B & M that you can go to, Get some house blends of non aromatic...

    New on the Pipe Hobby

Welcome to the forum Brunow. You have received lots of good advice so far. +1 for Six and rothnh on the CB white. I do like the pipe and tobacco bag that you first posted. That looks to be the best design that I have seen. The price was good too. Happy puffing.

    A. Dunhill's Book: "The Gentle Art of Smoking"

That was a good buy. It goes for much more on amazon. I have been reading a lot this year. I think this is all of them: PIPESMOKING BY R. C. Hacker, Newcombe's IN SEARCH OF PIPE DREAMS, AND PIPES & TOBACCO by C. Ehwa, Jr. I found the "The Gentle Art of Smoking" at an estate sale. I have read...

A Few Questions About My Kirsten

The long shank is called a ram rod. You can use it to push a wad of tissue through the body in order to clean the body..

A Few Questions About My Kirsten

They do not draw as easily as my briars. Does it draw hard without the stem on? Can you pass a cleaner through the stem? I have seen 2 styles of bowl attachment. one has a metal plate, for lack of description,I think that it threads on to the screw below the bowl. The other has just the screw...

    Kirsten Pipe Bowls

Zonomo, I have a Kirsten and a Viking (similar to falcon) and have looked at Falcons. They all have small standard bowls. The Kirsten has a lot of parts and cleans up nicely. They are bulky and ugly but smoke very cool and dry. I like them for the clean up. Best for home sit down use. The viking...

Scored a Malaga Pipe on Ebay

Congratulations. I have been trolling for a Malaga pipe for a while but that one did not talk to me. Glad to hear that it smoked well.

    What'd the Difference??

The one at P&C is listed as a Lovat (round shank). Judging by the size it is abt a group 4. The weight is light for the size indicating good briar. I am not sure about the magnum or the G. Yours is a lumberman (oval shank, saddle stem). Check the dimensions to compare with the listed pipe. Nice...

    How Many Blends Are There?

I have forgotten my math on combinations and permutations but it could be done considering number of varieties of leaf, processes for curing, maturing and flavorings. Anyone up for it?  :worship:

    How Many Blends Are There?

It is a gloomy day in N.California. Yeah it happens. :| I have recently helped a old new pipe smoker pick up the briar once more. We were discussing the vast number of blends that are available today. I wondered how many there might be and estimated upwards of one thousand. A quick search of...
