Early Christmas Gift: a New Storient

That's awesome! 8O What are those little holes at the bottom of the bowl near the stem? :?

What to expect from a *.com estate pipe?

 Oh man, that is funny. Reminds me of the time I took a taxi that smelled like shit, but also had a strawberry air freshener, so it was strawberry shit smell. :| To the OP, it really depends (to some degree) how much you like the pipe. If it was a pipe you absolutely loved, you might...

    Low Nicotine Tobacco

I know you asked for VAs, but I would also like to mention that orientals are tasty and light on nicotine.

    Tobacco List

One small piece of advice. A lot of places do samples of one type of tobacco (like an aromatic sampler or English sampler), if I were you, I would try to sample a wide range of tobacco blend types, like a blend with lots of latakia, a blend with a little latakia, a blend with lots of orientals...

    Corn Cobs Questions

Holy fragaroli! I never heard of that before. I suggest you carry some kitchen matches if at all possible, or at least a small box of wooden matches. I almost exclusively smoke corn cob pipes and I have never had that experience (not even CLOSE!) so I definitely think you should get another...

Words of Wisdom on "Bad" Habits and Health Concerns

My grandfather, a smoker, died of a heart attack at age 38 and my grandmother in her 60s of emphysema. Certainly, there were no "good ole days" where people were immune to ill health while eating lard and smoking all day. One thing I find troubling about threads like these is that people seem...

What kind of Tobaccos are These?

I apologize for my laughing. I hadn't even noticed it was in the beginner forum since I usually only check the latest discussions. That said, I think it's fair game to let the OP know that these tobaccos are mass-produced, and are kind of like Budweiser or Pabst Blue Ribbon: you get those who...

What kind of Tobaccos are These?

I couldn't help but laugh out loud at these.

    Sweetest Latakia Blends Out There?

He said it was Mac Baren HH Vintage Syrian.

    Non-Aromatics

Rattray's Red Rapparee or Robert McConnell: Oriental are two very good oriental blends that have little-to-no tongue bite. If you want something with a heavier latakia, try 3 Oaks Syrian, which also has zero bite to it.

    Respect the Irish Flake

In Soviet Russia, Red Man chew you. Sorry, that's my favourite meme.

    Why Inhale?

What about taste buds? I thought they were on your tongue. What you said is equivalent to saying you would only drink everclear, i.e., the purpose of the activity is the physical impact on one's body rather than sensory considerations.

This is my new dog Andy!

Congratulations on your dog! They're great companions. He'll be smoking a pipe in no time, like me!

    Respect the Irish Flake

Ahhhhh, yeah, that would explain a lot. Interesting about the alcohol. Hmm, might need to try that.

    Respect the Irish Flake

Now that does surprise me. I have never felt any lady nic in Grousemoor. It makes me wonder if it has something to do (somewhat) with the blends and an individual's body chemistry. I notice my physical reaction to tobaccos doesn't always correspond to their supposed strength rating. :?

    Arrival

sixmpo - I guess my thread title is a bit presumptuous/misleading. I know there are still lots of things to learn, but that initial phase of frustration is gone at least and now the moments of learning/difficulties are enjoyable (if that makes sense). Baron - that's cool. What was it exactly...
